Deadly Connection

Deadly Connection
The Deadly Secrets #2
Kathy Harris

Hannah Cassidy's day has just gotten so much worse. A  victim of an attack, a narrow escape from a kidnapper, and witnessing an attack on another young woman. Wrong place, wrong time? Or was she the intended target? TBI Special Agent Jake Matheson is going to find out.

Having been on his way to meet someone Jack happens upon Hannah moments after her attack. Could the three women involved be related or connected somehow? Or was it a random attack in a popular location? Somehow Jack thinks that at least one of the three was the intended target and the intended victim most likely was going to be trafficked.

When evidence and circumstances point to the potential of danger to Hannah, Jack, the Bureau, and Nashville Metro up their watch. But with few clues and a limited description finding their suspect just might prove more than a little challenging.

Deadly Connection is the second book in Kathy Harris's The Deadly Secrets series and it doesn't disappoint. The action begins from the opening line and mystery just seems to get deeper the further one gets into the book. There are reveals that let the reader into some of the background action but the question of why is not easily or quickly revealed. If you are a fan of contemporary Romantic Suspense with a not-in-your-face-Christian thread this is one you will want to check out. This is not a graphic suspense read but it doesn't shy away from topics that could easily lend themselves to such. Could be a good book for your next book club discussion.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - All thoughts expressed are my own.

Heirs of Falcon Point ~ Review with Giveaway

Heirs of Falcon Point
By Traci Hunter Abramson,
    Sian Ann Bessey,
    Paige Edwards, and
    A.L. Sowards

First off, let me just say -"You have to read this book!" The story from start to finish is excellent.

Eighty years ago the Lang family lost everything to the Nazis when Austria came under their control. The three Lang children managed to survive the violence that came to their home but it forever separated them in a world being torn apart by war.

Fast forward to today and we are introduced to the descendants of the Lang children and the descendant of the man responsible for forever altering their lives and their world. Now, these cousins have never met one another nor were they aware of the existence of each other. But somehow they are all finding their way to the truths of their grandparents' (or great-grandparents') pasts. Anna and Cole have been searching with little to no success while Tess and Lars had no idea of their family's past.

But someone is determined to keep the truth hidden and prevent the Lang children from claiming what is theirs by birth. And if necessary murder is an option that could be employed to silence them forever. And these heirs have no idea of the danger they are in.

I really enjoyed this book - it was one of those can't put it down books. Before this year all of these authors were new to me and before this book I had only read Paige Edwards. When you have four authors create a book one would expect some weak spots where their work comes together but this book was excellent and seamless throughout the story and during scene/character transitions. I, for one, would love a follow-up book staring all of these characters just to see what happens next in their lives. That being said the story does come to a satisfying conclusion, it's just that I really enjoyed getting to know these characters so much.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
In the early days of World War II, the Lang family lost everything.
Eighty years later, it's time to take it back.

The Nazis have taken control of Austria, and wealthy widower Leopold Lang faces a difficult decision: join the ranks of the foreign power that has taken over his homeland or flee with his children to safety. Leopold makes his choice--but too late. His family is ripped apart, never to be reunited. But decades later, fate brings together the descendants of this broken dynasty in the place where it all began--Falcon Point.

Anna, Cole, and Tess have never met, each relying on fractured pieces of information to understand their Austrian heritage. But when unforeseen opportunities draw these Lang cousins to to Falcon Point, they soon discover they are not alone in their quest to claim the coveted property and the fabled treasure hidden within. Unfortunately, another claimant, one with a much darker heritage, is determined to eliminate the Lang family once and for all.

The Baker and the Wolf ~ Review

The Baker and the Wolf
A Villians Ever After #10
By J.M. Stengl

Cerise DuBois works in her family's bakery, there's some magic ~ magic of which she has no hand in. She can almost always be found out of doors in a distinctive scarlet red cloak that should draw attention to her but somehow hasn't. In fact, she's never gotten the attention of any man until a handsome stranger enters her bakery. A stranger shrouded in mystery and one whom her mother would most decidedly disapprove of.

Soon everything Cerise thought she knew about herself is cast into doubt, especially when she meets her estranged grandmother who possesses magical abilities. Could the life she's always known be a lie?

What follows is a story of romance, self-discovery, and a fight for the truth and survival. The Baker and the Wolf is a delightful fairytale-retelling told from the other side of the tale, offering hope for the villain and a second chance to get it right and be something more than they have been. A lovely short read at less than 200 pages, well maybe not that short, but it is an easy read and appropriate for readers in my opinion older tweens/young teens and up.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
A mysterious stranger, an enchantress grandmother, and an overprotective mother.
Can Cerise trust any of them?

Cerise DuBois might as well be invisible. Not even her scarlet cloak attracts male interest, and her mother begins to despair of snaring a husband for a boring middle daughter with no magic ability. If not for her baking talents, Cerise would be a hopeless burden on the family.

Or so she believes until a dark man with eyes like gold appears in the family bakery to deliver an invitation from a grandmother she has never met . . . and the real trouble begins. What if everything Cerise believes about herself and her family is false?

Unlike other men, the stranger gives Cerise his undivided attention, yet he has a habit of vanishing when she needs him most—for example when a huge black dog (surely it can’t be a wolf) follows her through the city park.

Worst of all, he claims that if she follows the magical path to her enchantress grandmother’s cottage, her entire world will change. Should Cerise trust this fascinating foreign mage, or will he eat her alive?

The Baker and the Wolf is one of twelve short novels in A Villain's Ever After, a collection of standalone stories featuring villainous twists on some of your favorite classic fairytales. Read the series in any order for magical adventures . . . and fall in love with villains as you’ve never seen them before.
Who said villains can’t have happily-ever-afters?

Letters from the Dragon's Son ~ Review

Letters from the Dragon's Son
The White Wolf #2
By Tammy Lash

Jonathan Gudwyne has returned to the land of Izzy's birth but tragedy and heartbreak continue to dog his every step. What's worse his health is suffering - the sins of the past have destroyed it and his peace of mind. But for both Jonathan and Izzy they must face the pain and heartbreak of their pasts before they can find healing.

This book is really hard to describe without giving away key parts of the story and in my opinion ruining it for fellow readers. But I can say that this builds upon what came before, in the first book of the series - White Wolf and the Ash Princess. And I can't stress enough that you have to read the first book to truly appreciate and grasp what is happening in this book. I'd say what I took away from this book as the underlying thread/thought is that one must forgive. Holding onto hate, grief, fear, and disgust doesn't hurt the person you are holding it against as much as it hurts you. Even if you feel fully justified in these feelings they will destroy you - consuming you from within. That isn't to say that forgiveness is easy to bestow but it is necessary to move on and heal, to remove the restraints of the past upon your heart, mind, and soul. Forgiveness is a choice and one that often requires strength and bravery to complete.

There are several key emotional moments that will touch and move you so a box of tissues nearby might prove useful.

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a read that is outside of the normal while offering outstanding characters, settings, and plotline.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations bur that I offer my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

for Nadine Brandes's upcoming 2022 book.

Don't you just love that title?

Wishtress

It makes me think of a dandelion that has gone to white,
blowing on it as a wish is made.
A magical being that ebbs and flows with time.
An enchantress that grants wishes.
A dweller in a wishing well.

The possibilities are endless,
but it is fun to try to imagine what the
story could maybe be about.

What does Wishtress bring to your mind?

The Mistletoe Countess ~ Review

The Mistletoe Countess
by Pepper Basham

Grace Ferguson is delighted that her sister is going to be married and she imagines all sorts of fairytale loveliness for the life she is about to embark on. But when a secret threatens to ruin her family and more than one life - Grace does the only thing possible - she takes her sister's place.

But Grace has never sought a position in society so life as a countess is something she is unprepared for. But if literary knowledge is needed she's read a fair bit. And she is more than adequate as an amateur sleuth - having read any detective novel she can get her hands on. What she never expected was that this knowledge would come in handy when someone tries to do away with her new husband - Lord Frederick Percy.

Assuming the title of Havensbrook Hall was the last thing Frederick ever wanted - but the unexpected loss of his brother has him trying to restore the estate and save it from financial ruin. He needs money and marriage to an American heiress seems his only hope. When a last-minute change finds him marrying a substitute bride it will either be a colossal disaster or a blessing in disguise - and there is no way of knowing which until after their vows are said.

When danger follows Frederick and Grace across the ocean - he can't ignore the fact that someone seems determined to see him dead. The question is why. But finding the answer will have to wait as Lord and Lady Astley settle into their new roles.

As danger creeps ever closer, the darkness of the past threatens the happiness that Frederick and Grace have found during their short acquaintance and even shorter marriage. But to claim the inheritance that is rightly theirs they will need to delve into the past and its secrets to get to the truth, freeing them of the danger that seeks to end them all.

First off, I have to say there is a whole lot of story packed into this book. It isn't that it is too long just a lot of action and story, what with the whole marriage debacle and then the settling into life in England and solving the mystery surrounding Havensbrook Hall and the previous/current residents. Overall I'd say it was an excellent reading experience.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion ~ all thoughts expressed are my own.

(For those who don't want lots of kissing - a word of warning - there is a lot of kissing)

About the Book:
Publisher: Barbour Fiction Release Date: September 1, 2021 Genre: Christian Historical Romance Will the magic of Christmas bring these two newlyweds closer together, or will the ghosts of the past lead them into a destructive discovery from which not even a Dickens’s Christmas can save them? Mistletoe is beautiful and dangerous, much like the woman from Lord Frederick’s Percy’s past, so when he turns over a new leaf and arranges to marry for his estate, instead of his heart, he never expects the wrong bride to be the right choice. Gracelynn Ferguson never expected to take her elder sister’s place as a Christmas bride, but when she’s thrust into the choice, she will trust in her faithful novels and overactive imagination to help her not only win Frederick’s heart but also to solve the murder mystery of Havensbrook Hall before the ghosts from Frederick’s past ruin her fairytale future.
