Armchair BEA Day 5- Ask the Experts
My Question for the Experts:
What is your favorite source for review copies?
Is it from the publisher, the author, a PR Blog Tour company,
or is it from an online distributors (NetGalley or Edelweiss)?
My Advice for Bloggers:
Read what you like, but don't be afraid of other genres.
You may be surprised at what you may discover!
If a publisher offers an e-newsletter, sign-up for it!
This is great way to find out about new and upcoming books.
Read for the love of reading, if it becomes a chore or just
a deadline to meet you will lose the joy!
Be sure to comment - Thanks!
~ It has been fun meeting everyone ~
I prefer direct from the publisher, with Netgalley/Edelweiss in second because I find it easier to keep up with physical books than e-copies.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit & comment. I hate when the reader freezes so I love physical books so I don't have to wait for the page to turn. But if I have to be away for a while and I'm not sure what to read I can take 20 with me on my reader so both have pros and cons.
DeleteI use Netgalley often but also receive ARC's directly from the publishers and blog tour hosts. Today is the first I have heard of Edelweiss.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips!

Thanks for the visit & comment. I first heard about Edelweiss purely by accident through a web search and about two weeks later a publisher offered me an ARC through Edelweiss.
DeleteNice to meet you!
I get all my galleys from Netgalley. I don't live in the US, so it'd be harder to get ARCs directly from publishers because of shipping costs etc. Also, I sort of prefer digital galleys; they can be deleted once you're finished and don't take space. (On the downside, the font can sometimes be hard to read.) Edelweiss is harder for me to use than Netgalley and I've yet to be approved for a galley there, but I find it useful to see publisher catalogues.
ReplyDeleteYes the font can be hard to read. I do like browsing Publisher Catalogues to see what is coming up!
DeleteThanks for the visit.
I use Netgalley a lot! I also have been using Edelweiss more and more over the past few months.
ReplyDeleteI do love publishers though!
It's nice to get the best of both worlds.
DeleteLove your tips especially, "Read what you like, but don't be afraid of other genres." I don't accept review copies so can't answer that question.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and the comment.
DeleteI am a huge fan of NetGalley and I just got my first book on Edelweiss, so we'll see how that goes.
ReplyDeleteKate @ Ex Libris
Thanks for the comment. Good luck with Edelweiss!
DeleteI prefer working with the PR person from the publisher because, it saves me a lot of time. After a while, they get to know what you like and what they send you gets more tailored to what you want to read.
ReplyDeleteNetgalley is great, but there is a disconnect for me somehow. I have to wade through everything and miss the back and forth between a live person that you get when working directly.
I hear you. I use all of the methods that I mentioned in this post. Some PR people are better than others and I always hate when there is a change within the company.
DeleteThanks for the visit!
When I actually got review copies on a steady basis I really preferred the blogger-hosted tours. Princess Bookie's Around the World Tours was a great resource for me to get all hot new books that I just wasn't getting from publishers. I can't stand ebooks, so right now that's not a viable option for me. I'm glad you enjoyed ABEA! Tattooed Books
ReplyDeletePhysical books are my favorite. I checked out Princess Bookie's Around the World Tours, I can see why it was a help to you.
DeleteThanks for the visit!
I love NetGalley! It's a great way of receiving ARCs for someone who lives outside the US.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips, btw! I totally agree with "read for the love of reading" :)

Thanks for the visit and the comment. If you don't love how can you share it!
DeleteI usually go with either netgalley or book tours like TLC.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and the comment!
DeleteGreat question. I haven't even attempted to get anything from Netgalley yet as I heard too many stories about it being too hard unless you have like 1000 followers! I'm curious as to how Edelweiss works though.
ReplyDeleteSome of the big name publishers are harder to get approval for, but some of the smaller less well-known publishers are willing to take a chance on a newer blogger without a huge following. Some publishers on NetGalley will also auto-approve you for any request after you post your first review.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and the comment!
I use Netgalley. I have an Edelweiss account, too, but I've never requested anything there...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great tips. :)
Since I worked in a bookstore for a number of years, the publishers were my main sources; however, I'm thrilled to read about NetGalley and Edelweiss. I still get copies from various sources and happy to have them and review them.
