At Lighthouse Point ~ Review

At Lighthouse Point
Three Sisters Island #3
By Suzanne Fisher Woods

It's Blaine Grayson's turn to let her family see what she has to offer. She's taken two years to discover herself and hone her culinary skills. She is ready to oversee the upgrade of Camp Kicking Moose's kitchen making it a commercial kitchen. There is just one itty, bitty problem (well actually it is a huge problem) her family has surprised her with doing the remodel themselves. And it is never, ever going to be a commercial kitchen. Nothing is even up to a good working family kitchen standard - it is all show.

But Blaine has a bit of a surprise of her own for her family - she's brought home a friend from France. Jean-Paul is not who her family would have ever thought Blaine would take a fancy to. But they don't understand just what his friendship and compassionate nature have done for her. And worse Artie Lotosky, who has been there for her over the years, is anything but pleased with her return to Three Sisters Island. Was coming home a mistake?

The Grayson family has grown since it moved to Three Sisters Island. Cam and Maddie are both married and expecting their first babies. But their change it now attitude has not endeared them to the local population. In fact, Cam is almost regarded as a Summer Tourist who looks down on everyone and everything the Island has to offer. Maddie's fears still grip her. And Blaine can only hope that her family will realize that she did grow-up while on her own. And then there is a long-absent relative who has suddenly shown up on the Island. Summer hasn't even begun and already the stress is starting to raise its head.

At Lighthouse Point is the third and final book in the Three Sisters Island series, it could be read as a standalone title but it reads so much better if you have previously read the first books. All three Grayson sisters and their father Paul take center stage, so to speak, but Blaine is given the starring role. I like how various key moments of Blaine's early life are presented, allowing the reader a glimpse into Blaine's heart and the hidden depth of her soul. This is a contemporary work set in Maine, and the main focus is family and a finding where one belongs. This is a lovely series conclusion and well worth setting aside a few hours for.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
Blaine Grayson returns to Three Sisters Island with a grand plan--to take Camp Kicking Moose to the next level. Her dream starts to unravel when she discovers Moose Manor's kitchen has been badly remodeled by her sister, Cam, who doesn't know how to cook. Added to that blow is the cold shoulder given by her best friend, Artie Lotosky, now a doctor to the unbridged Maine islands.

As old wounds are opened, Blaine starts to wonder if she made a mistake by coming home. Little by little, she must let go of one dream to discover a new one, opening her heart to a purpose and a future she had never imagined.

Bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher invites you back to the coast of Maine for a story that reminds you to release what doesn't matter and cling to what does: faith, family, and friendships.

Dusk's Darkest Shores ~ Review

Dusk's Darkest Shores
Regency Wallflowers #1
By Carolyn Miller

Mary Bloomfield has never caught the eye of any man and at her age, it seems she never will. And with the war with Napoleon, Amberley has even fewer men available for those in need of a husband. But she has a purpose in her life, helping her father with his medical duties to the neighborhood and surrounding area. Her caring nature calls often upon the Lord for His healing touch on the ill. Her dreams of a home and family of her own seem to be just that dreams.

Adam Edgerton's family is anticipating his return from war, his actions have labeled him a hero and he is expected to marry soon upon his return. But none know that his return is for illness. An injury has apparently robbed Adam of his future. A future shrouded in the darkness of doubt, pain, and betrayal.

Seeking to help Adam to see beyond his new limitations, Mary reaches out offering hope and encouragement. But can he really have a future as he is now, a man surrounded by darkness for the rest of his days? Mary and her father are not about to give up on Adam.

Dusk's Darkest Shores is the first book in the Regency Wallflowers series and it is an excellent series debut. Set in England's Lake District, I loved Mary's descriptions of the area, her attention to detail shows the depth of her caring and nurturing spirit. Now there are some moments that reveal the darkness of the soul in a sinful world in this book that speak of the injustices of the world and the prejudices of human nature. This is just a thread that runs through the story and it has a different impact on the various characters and how they respond to it. I would recommend this book to teen and adult readers - it is excellent reading and continues the standard one is used to from Carolyn Miller's previous books. If you are new to her work this would be a good one to start with as it is the first in a new series.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
How can a meek wallflower help a returning war hero
whose dreams are plunged into darkness?

Mary Bloomfield's chances for matrimony have long since passed her by as she assists her father with his medical practice in England's beautiful Lake District. Even without love, it's a peaceful life.

Until decorated war hero Adam Edgerton returns, not to acclaim and rest, but to a new battle against the repercussions of an insidious disease. Mary's caring nature cannot stand to see someone suffer--but how can she help this man see any hope when his dreams are wasted by his condition?

Together they struggle to find a way forward for him, and slowly develop into friendship and esteem. Then a summer storm atop a mountain peak leads to scandal--and both Mary and Adam must search the depths of their hearts for answers to find any future path with happiness at its end.

Hooked On You
Hooked On You
Maple Falls Romance #1
By Kathleen Fuller

Riley McAllister is living her dream life - at least that is what she is presenting to her followers on social media. So yeah, that may be a bit of an exaggeration. Sure her bank account is inching closer to the red. And she may have to have a second job to support her dream job. But image is everything and online she is lookin' good.

But then she gets "the call" - her grandmother, Mimi, has broken her leg and needs her to come home and help her out. Maple Falls is the last place she ever wanted to return to. Returning home is admitting defeat and that she may have made a mistake - Nope not happening ever! But she's not about to leave Mimi in need. A quick trip should soon set everything right and she can get back to NYC and the perfect world she created for herself even if it isn't real but it is hers.

Hayden Price had finally made it to the major league until an injury sidelined him permanently. Now he's using his baseball skills to coach Maple Falls newest softball team. It's not his dream but he is glad to be home with his family and friends. What he doesn't realize is that Riley's Mimi is about to play matchmaker and he's her choice for Riley. Now she may have ulterior motives but she has Riley's best interests at heart. But you can't force something no matter how much you want to.

Hooked on You is a sweet read. Riley is a broken person (whether or not she knows it) and her grandmother Erma wants more than anything for Riley to see herself for the person she truly is. But Riley has been taught from a young age that she can trust no one and it is the one lesson from her mother that she has taken to heart, that and she doesn't want to be seen as a failure like her mother was.

Maple Falls is the perfect small town. That isn't to say that life is perfect here but if you want to experience small-town living this book will let you do so without having to relocate. Everyone knows everything about you (and if they don't know all the details they can make an educated guess which may or may not be correct) and they are more than willing to make it their business to help you achieve the perfect life. It's not that they're nosy or busybodies, nope it is just that they care! And if they can help you find romance, friendship, and a place to belong they are more than willing to give it a go.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Invading Hell ~ Review

Invading Hell

The Oculus Gate #2
By Bryan Davis

First off, I have to say don't read this book before reading the first book - Heaven Came Down. You need this backstory to know what is taking place in Invading Hell

Now onto this book. The fake Angels in Heaven Came Down have been defeated and the last remnants are being taken down. But another threat looms - the Refectors and a new character we are early on in the book introduced to - Alexandra. Can I just if you combined the worst Disney villains together you wouldn't even come close to this conniving soulless being. And she has two of our heroes from book 1 in her sights and what she has planned isn't good.

The action is non-stop and the danger surrounding them is tightening its noose. Can they escape the traps being set? Well, I'm not about to give away anything. But this is one series you have to read - it is going to take you to the depths of Hell and leave you wondering if you can escape an eternity of suffering and damnation.

And whatever you do - do not skip to the end as you will ruin everything!!! I will admit I love Byran Davis's work and this newest book is no exception - he keeps the tension strong throughout and the ending was WOW! I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I was provided a complimentary copy with no expectations but to provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

The enemy must be faced...even in the pit of hell.

The fake angels have been vanquished, but the devastation they caused remains--a world in fear of anarchy and a deadly contagion that might soon sweep across every continent. The angels also opened the Oculus Gate, allowing entry of a new breed of aliens. These "Refectors" are taking over human bodies that were purged of their souls by the angels' toxic vaccine.

Ben Garrison's highly skilled team, with the recent addition of Leo the huntsman and Iona, a sharpshooting teenager, must figure out why these possessed humans are traveling to remote locations near the Arctic Circle. Satellite images indicating the presence of yet another alien race make the team's quest to Alaska and Siberia to learn the truth even more dangerous.

A message from Ben's departed commander provides a cryptic clue to the existence of the root of all the alien evils, a self-styled sorceress who seems able to calculate every move her opponents make.

Ben and company must invade hell itself to find this ancient evil and conquer her in hopes of ending the plagues on mankind once and for all.

The Nature of a Lady ~ Review

The Nature of a Lady
The Secret of the Isles #1
By Roseanna M White

Lady Elizabeth Sinclair, known as Libby to her family and friends, well if she had any friends, is planning an escape. Her brother is determined to see her married to a man she absolutely can't stand, well maybe he's not that bad, but she doesn't want to marry him. And with time she hopes her brother can be persuaded that Libby doesn't need to be married off to his closest friend. So with her microscope in tow, she plans to spend the summer examining the flora and fauna that can be found on the Isles of Scilly.

But Libby's plans are soon upended when strangers start delivering parcels to her cottage for "Elizabeth". There is just one problem she is the wrong Elizabeth and she is quickly caught up in something which she is unprepared to face.

Oliver Tremayne calls the Isles of Scilly home as has his family for generations. He is content with the life he's living - a gentleman of no importance to most of England and a clergyman to his own. But when his sister disappears he finds that she has somehow created a mess that has caught Lady Elizabeth in its web. To get to the truth and to protect Libby from whatever Beth has done he will have to work together with Libby and her "maid" Mabena to unravel this mystery.

But more than mistaken identity is at play as they soon discover. Legends of pirate treasure have brought danger to the Isles and where danger lurks anything can happen.

The Nature of a Lady is the first book in Roseanna M White's newest series - The Secret of the Isles. And believe me when I say this is a not-to-be-missed book. If you have ever read her in the past you will not be disappointed as a new cast of characters takes the stage. I loved getting to know Oliver, Libby, Mabena, Casek, Mamm-wynn, and Tas-gwyn. And Libby's brother Bram - well you'll have to decide for yourself your feelings about him - I will say he is a tad grumpy - especially when Libby sets out to foil his plans for her future.

If you love Historical Fiction and Romance you will want to move this book to the top of your TBR list. And who can resist a treasure hunt that might discover the greatest treasure of all - love?

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Danger on the Loch JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Danger on the Loch by Paige Edwards, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

Danger on the Loch
Danger on the Loch
A Pressley-Coombes Romantic Suspense
By Paige Edwards

First off I have to say I just love this cover. Yes, I'll admit it the cover was what first drew me to this book and then I read the book blurb, and then how could I say no when given a chance to read this book.

The opening prologue hints at what is to come and with the first few chapters one can't help but wonder just how this will play out in the rest of the storyline. Danger on the Loch is excellent reading, and if you are a fan of romantic suspense you will LOVE this book.

Now I will say it is obvious from little remarks made throughout this book that this is part of a series and it is not the first but the book in no way felt as if I had been missing something by not reading the other books. The story is complete in and of itself. I loved getting to meet Paisley Clark, who is about to get her fondest wish to learn who her father is and to actually get to meet him. Paisley is about to get the shock of her life when she travels to Scotland to meet the man her mother refused to acknowledge.

I also liked getting to know James Pressley-Coombes, who happens to be one of Paisley's dearest childhood friends. And by happenstance James is working in Scotland able to provide Paisley with the support she needs as she navigates this new part of her life. When their longstanding friendship shows signs of becoming something more Paisley and James are not about to rush into anything. And soon danger seeks them out and worse it could cost them their very lives.

So set aside several hours, turn off your phone, fix yourself a cup of tea or coffee, hang up a do not disturb sign, and delve into this book. It will rank up there as some of your best spent hours and you won't regret it.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but to provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table ~ Review

Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table
It's Time to Win the Battle of Your Mind...
By Louie Giglio

When we are in the midst of troubles and stresses of life don't ask God to get you out of whatever you are facing. Rather THANK God for being there with you. In the Psalms we read about God preparing a place for us at His table in the midst  of our enemies.  But all too often this table that is meant for just us and God finds Satan joining us because we invite him to the table. We allow our fears, our anger, our doubts, our feelings to issue an invitation to the enemy of our soul and our Savior.

All we need to allow the Devil to join us at our table is to give him the slightest opening. We need to refuse him access and call on Jesus's name to turn him away.  Wanting more of the material parts of the world, succumbing to temptations, dissatisfaction with your life is a big flashing invitation to our table.  Anything that is a normal part of our life the Devil can use against it. He can be empathetic - just look at how Eve was tempted to sin. He wants to steal everything we value, break our relationship with God, destroy the connections we have with our family and friends.

Sometimes we don't even realize that we have been enjoying years in the presence of our enemy because we welcomed him to our table not realizing who we were offering an open invitation to. And once the enemy has joined us he isn't willing going to leave our table. Rather he wants us to leave the table that God has prepared for us, convincing us that the next table over is better than what God has offered to us. The freedom offered by the enemy finds us shackling our selves to him. We've allowed him to lead us away from God fully entrenched in the lies he has been whispering in our ears. He appeals to our basic needs with false promises. Temptation isn't sin if we reject the temptation BUT if we act on it whether in thought or deed is sin. Stop your thoughts before they lead you on the path to Hell. Don't compound your sin with more sin - this is never the answer to feeling better. Sin is the opening the Devil needs to condemn us - throwing our shortcomings back at us.

When we are in the presence of God, our Good Shepherd, He provides us with encouragement as we go through the dark valleys of life. He travels the route with us always offering us His hand if only we don't turn away seeking the false promises of ease. God allows us to face the challenges before us but He is our biggest advocate in the encouragement department.  We need to remember that God HAS OUR BACKS! And there is always a way out of these lies. it isn't easy but it is doable if only we listen to God instead of the enemy and open our eyes to see with faith. We can counter the enemy's attacks by calling on the power of Jesus's name.

It is never too late to get out of sin before it happens. Each way out gets smaller the closer you get to sin. When given an out take it. Sin will never give you the lasting feeling that you will get from an intimate relationship with God. Take time to spend time alone with God - learn His voice so the enemy cannot deceive you into listening to the wrong voice.  You can be the person He created you to be and it starts in your mind, your heart, and your soul.  This is where the battle line with the enemy is drawn and the choice is yours. Choose wisely your life depends on it.

I really enjoyed (though enjoyed isn't quite the right word for it) this audiobook. This is one that you'll want to keep handy and listen to more than once. There is much to help you grow in your relationship with God and to help you see past the blinders that are distorting your vision.  It is time to take the place in the story of your life that God has written for you. Don't let your story be destroyed by reaching out to God today. God exalted Jesus and we should exalt Him in our own life and not bow to the lies and temptations of the enemy of all. I highly recommend this book it has much to offer for believers and to those who are seekers standing at the crossroad.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this audiobook with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Audiobook:

Louie Giglio helps you find encouragement, hope, and strength in the

midst of any valley as you reject the enemy voices of
fear, rage, lust, insecurity, anxiety, despair, temptation, or defeat.

Scripture is clear: the Enemy is a liar who will stop at nothing to tempt you into poor decisions and self-defeating mindsets, making you feel afraid, angry, anxious, or defeated. It is all too easy for Satan to weasel his way into a seat at the table intended for only you and your King. But you can fight back.

Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table outlines the ways to overcome those lies so you can find peace and security in any challenging circumstance or situation. With the same bold, exciting approach to Scripture as employed in Goliath Must Fall and his other previous works, pastor Louie Giglio examines Psalm 23 in fresh ways, highlighting verse 5: “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”

You can find freedom from insecurity, temptation, and defeat—if you allow Jesus, the Shepherd, to lead the battle for your mind and heart. This spiritual warfare book for those who are leery of spiritual warfare books will resonate with Louie’s core Passion tribe as well as with Christians of all ages who want to live a triumphant life in God.
