The Paramedic's Forever Family ~ Review

The Paramedic's Forever Family
Smokey Mountain First Responders #2
By Tanya Agler

Lindsay Hudson lost her husband to a work-related incident and has not been interested in dating anyone since then.  And if she ever were it most certainly would never be with a first responder like her husband or her best friend/next-door neighbor Mason Ruddick.

Mason Ruddick has no plans to marry, he can't handle another loss in his life. And with his little sister battling cancer, Mason is even more determined to keep from losing his heart to his late best friend's widow, who has become an important part of his life. Now if he can just get his heart to agree with his head.

I have to be honest, I wonder if there would have even been a chance for Lindsay and Mason to even possibly have a chance to maybe have a romance if not for her late husband. Lindsay seems rather hard at times on Mason. I mean they aren't dating, she repeatedly states she refuses to even think about dating someone in the same profession as her late husband due to the dangers. She's rather quick to judge others without looking at all the facts. I get it she's a single mother with lots of stress on the job, but she seems to have a hard time giving others the same respect and consideration she wants. And Mason seems to thrive on living on the edge of extreme. He also seems to be leery of commitment on a personal level beyond his family. And he is almost anti-gardening, while botanical pursuits are what drive Lindsay.

I have to admit I liked Mason's Grandpa Joe and Grandma Betty (for the little bit she was in) the best. They seemed to have good heads on their shoulders and they had wisdom to impart if only Mason and Lindsay would listen. Everyone should be so fortunate in their grandparents both in the care they show and the love they share.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
Sometimes “good friends”
Just isn't enough…

Bachelor paramedic Mason Ruddick doesn't know what he'd do without Lindsay Hudson. The widowed mom is his sounding board, his neighbor, and, since the death of her husband and his best friend, his lifeline. Only lately, Mason can't stop noticing just how beautiful and special Lindsay is. Or how often he thinks about her. Now Mason's heart is caught between the best friend he lost…and the one he's falling for.

Driving Force ~ Review

Driving Force
Elite Guardians Collection #1
By Lynette Eason and Kate Angelo

Christina Sherman never thought she'd be hired to provide protection to a dog. But Boss isn't just any dog - he is a highly trained national asset and the only thing capable of stopping a chemical warfare attack in America. Grey Parker will do anything to keep his partner safe, including higher private security for round-the-clock protection. He's about to undergo an experimental surgery and the only way to ensure Boss's safety is to hire the woman he just witnessed saving the governor from a dangerous, potentially deadly attack.

The chemical agent that could bring America to her knees and destroy her should not be taken lightly. Grey has been working for years to stop the coming attack, and bodies are starting to be discovered as the mastermind begins to make his moves.

As the mastermind begins his attack, he seems bent on removing the only threat to his plan - Boss. But to get to Boss, he'll first have to stop Christina, Grey, and the Elite Guardians. But how do you stop someone who is always one step ahead of you while taunting you with what will happen next.

Can Christina and Grey outsmart a mastermind before it is too late? Time is against them in this fast-paced Romantic Suspense. Driving Force is the first book in the new Elite Guardians Collection that builds on Lynette Eason's Elite Guardians series. This is a not to be missed book that you won't be able to put down once you start reading it. And really, how can you go wrong when there is a dog involved, and not only involved, he is a hero!

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
He’s the last client she wants to protect…

Elite Guardians bodyguard/former sniper CHRISTINA SHERMAN has protected uncooperative clients before—but this time, well her client is bossy, headstrong and occasionally eats off the floor. Yes, he’s a highly trained military working dog, but certainly her skills could be put to better use, right?

Not according to former Special Forces Air Commando GREY PARKER. He needs her help to protect his dog while he undergoes an experimental surgery that could restore his ability to walk. He just needs someone to keep his canine partner safe. Most of all, Grey wants back on his feet so he can track down a deranged scientist known as The Scavenger who unleashed a nerve agent that left Grey sidelined in a wheelchair.

When an attempt is made on Grey’s life, and dead bodies begin piling up—with evidence the same toxin is responsible—suddenly Christina is tasked with keeping both dog and soldier alive…and with them, the secrets that could stop a terrorist attack.

But this time, even Christina might be in over her head.

Dive into the exciting ignition to the Elite Guardians Collection.

Banking on a Murder
A Fiona Quinn Quick Mystery
By C.S. McDonald

The Memorial Day weekend is kicking off and Fiona is about to enjoy a get-together with an old friend. It's been years since Priscilla Conroy has been in the neighborhood but thanks to a not-so-pleasant divorce she is back in Pittsburgh.

But when Priscilla never emerges from the bank, Fiona starts thinking, which may or may not be such a good thing. Did Priscilla blow her off, get knocked off by her ex? So many possibilities and no way to get answers. But Fiona, being Fiona, just can't let her mind rest and makes several trips to the now closed for the holiday bank. Everything looks fine and dandy except for the little old lady who keeps frequenting the ATM, but whatever. Until the whatever gives Fiona a new thought!

Banking on a Murder is a fun a quick read that can be enjoyed over a long lunch break. The story is entertaining and at places very amusing. I have to admit that I did not expect the conclusion that occurred and I'd say most people in a similar position would not expect this outcome either. The story is easy to follow and even if you have never read any Fiona Quinn mysteries before you won't get lost in not knowing what happened previously.

The Paris Betrayal ~ Review

The Paris Betrayal
By James R. Hannibal

In a word WOW!!!

If you are looking for a high-paced, time-is-running-out-to-save-the-world book you have found it with The Paris Betrayal.  Ben Calix is having a very bad day (make that week). He's a spy who has just had a mission go bad. And it just all goes downhill from there.

When his mission goes wrong, he discovers that his cover has been blown. And when the attacks keep coming he is more than a little surprised to find himself on the outside looking in. But Ben is more than his latest failed mission, he has come across a potential world-changing bioweapon. There is just one little problem - he has no one who will listen to his evidence. In this deadly game, he is caught up in, there is only one possible outcome, someone will die. Ben just hopes he can stay ahead long enough to save everyone from the mastermind behind it.

Having read James R, Hannibal's The Gryphon Heist and Chasing the White Lion I was looking forward to reading The Paris Betrayal. In no way was I disappointed. One is taken from one dangerous situation to another, never knowing who to trust. When a power-crazed individual finances the ultimate bioweapon and sets his focus on bringing down his foe, no one is going to stand in his way. If they do they will die. This is suspense at its best and The Paris Betrayal is not to be missed. In fact, I'd move to the top of your reading list.

PS If you love Dachshunds you have to read this book! Absolute must.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provided my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
After a rough mission in Rome involving the discovery of a devastating bioweapon, Company spy Ben Calix returns to Paris to find his perfectly ordered world has collapsed. A sniper attack. An ambush. A call for help that brings French SWAT forces down on his head. Ben is out. This is a severance--reserved for incompetents and traitors.

Searching for answers and anticipating a coming attack, Ben and a woman swept up in his misfortunes must travel across Europe to find the sniper who tried to kill him, the medic who saved his life, the schoolmaster who trained him, and an upstart hacker from his former team. More than that, Ben must come to grips with his own insignificance as the Company's plan to stop Leviathan from unleashing the bioweapon at any cost moves forward without him--and he struggles against the infection that is swiftly claiming territory within his own body.

Award-winning author James R. Hannibal ratchets up the tension on every page of this suspenseful new thriller.

Love & Joy ~ Review

Love & Joy
Holidays in Hallbrook #8
By Elsie Davis

He said it was just a birthday kiss but when her high school crush kisses her on her thirtieth birthday it seems like something more to Zoe. And her nine-year-old son Scott is less than thrilled especially after his dad dumped them. Zoe knows the kiss means nothing to Blake Peterson who left Hallbrook and the family business behind years ago. And she knows he's probably on his way out of town again just a matter of days.

Zoe has been hoping that she will soon be promoted to manager of Peterson's Ice Creamery, after all, she's already been doing most of the work of a manager already. But Old Man Peterson has other plans - the manager position will be filled by whoever comes up with the best remodel plan for the Creamery. Unfortunately, Zoe knows exactly what is going to happen especially since she is competing for the job she not only wants but needs against Blake Peterson.

But when Blake starts working in the Creamery to get a feel for the place, he and Zoe start to see something more to one another. But misunderstandings could stand in the way of love. But when misunderstandings lead to feelings of betrayal can anything fix what has been broken?

Love and Joy is a sweet read. Apparently, this is the eighth book in the Holidays in Hallbrook series, but this was my first introduction to both the series and the author. But in no way did I feel as if I was missing something vital to the series but not reading the previous books. This book can easily be read as a standalone title and one can definitely connect with the characters and enjoy the story.  I wouldn't say this is a meet-cute book but maybe a remeet-cute book as Zoe and Blake have a bit of a history between them thanks to Sarah - Zoe's BFF and Blake's sister.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
Let the battle begin…

A thirtieth birthday is a landmark, but Zoe is crushed when everyone - including her nine-year-old son - seems to forget it. Of course, she has no idea about the surprise party, or the even more surprising birthday kiss from her best friend’s brother and secret high school crush, Blake Peterson.

Zoe doesn’t have time to dwell on it, though. She’s worked hard to rebuild her life after a divorce, and she fully expects the promotion dangled in front of her. Her boss has other ideas, however: A contest to renovate Peterson’s Ice Creamery, and may the best man--or woman--win.  What’s worse, her competition is none other than Blake himself, Old Man Peterson’s grandson.

Blake’s ready to join the family business, but his grandfather says he has to prove himself first. Now, he has to work side-by-side with the beautiful Zoe, and the two butt heads right away. It’s a battle between Zoe’s nostalgic style and Blake’s beliefs that high-tech modernization is crucial to the bottom line of a company.

They’re both stubbornly sure that they’re right, but the more time they spend together, the more difficult it is to deny there’s something growing between them that has nothing to do with business. Can these two put their differences aside long enough to discover what’s really important?

By Terri Reed

It was supposed to be a fun pre-wedding excursion, an off-trail wilderness hike in the snowy wonder of Alaska. But it went horribly wrong and now someone seems determined to make sure that Ariel Potter doesn't live to find out what happened to her best friend and bride-to-be Violet James.

When Ariel claims that it was no accident that left her battered and bruised, Hunter and Juneau are assigned to be her protection. Alaskan Rescue is the first book in the Alaska K-9 Unit series and it, in true Love Inspired Suspense style, creates a story arc that will leave you in anticipation of book two. "It is an amusing look at politics and media today.  Appropriate to see how the Deep Creek mayoral election relates to current events. Dissatisfaction with politicians on many levels often leave us looking for extreme change.  It may leave you thoughtful.  It may leave you writing Gnarly's name in as your preferred candidate in the next election." Reviewer: Merry Citarella, Jaquo.com

"Hilarious, mysterious and full of adventure, Gnarly and his human friends will have you on the edge of your seat unable to put your book down. Candidate for Murder is well written, played out and a story that you have just never heard before. I enjoyed every moment reading this book!" Reviewer: Working Mommy Journal

Book Description:

It’s election time in Spencer, Maryland, and the race for mayor is not a pretty one. In recent years, the small resort town has become divided between the year-round residents who enjoy their rural way of life and the city dwellers who are moving into mansions, taking over the town council, and proceeding to turn Deep Creek Lake into a closed-gate community—complete with a host of regulations for everything from speed limits to clotheslines. When the political parties force-feed two unsavory mayoral nominees to the town’s residents, David O’Callaghan, the chief of police, decides to make a statement—by nominating Gnarly, Mac Faraday’s German shepherd, to run for mayor of Spencer! What starts out as a joke turns into a disaster when overnight, Gnarly becomes the front-runner, and his political opponents proceed to dig into the canine’s past. When one of the mayoral candidates ends up dead, it becomes apparent that slinging mud is not enough for someone with a stake in this election. With murder on the ballot, Mac Faraday and the gang—including old friends from past cases—dive in to clear Gnarly’s name, catch a killer, and save Spencer!

Deep Undercover ~ Review

Deep Undercover
True Blue K-9 Unit #4
By Lorena Worth

As the New York K-9 Unit continues to work on the murder of their boss and the disappearance of his K-9 partner Snapper, they have a serial bomber to deal with too. NYPD K-9 officers Brianne Hayes and Gavin Sutherland have suspicions about a realty group and decide that the only way to get the truth is to go undercover.

There is just one catch to Gavin's plan - they'll have to go undercover as a married couple. A couple with money to spend and a spoiled dog who goes everywhere with them. Yes, Gavin's K-9 partner Tommy is going undercover as a spoiled pooch in the hopes that he can sniff out evidence leading them to the bomber.

But when someone starts targeting the pair, the only question is whether it is related to their bomber or to Jordan's murder.

This is the fourth book in the True Blue K-9 series and it continues the story arc that has been running throughout the series - what happened to Jordan Jameson and why. Will the K-9 unit ever get to the truth? If you have not read the previous books that should not be a problem - as this story while having the series thread running through it focuses more on Gavin and Brianne's bomb detection work and their undercover operation. And as this is a Love Inspired Suspense there is of course a possible romance in their future - all clean reading too.

Pinto ~ Review with Spotlight and Giveaway

 Pinto!
 By M.J. Evans

Pinto wants to do something with his life - something important. When George Beck purchases him in 1912 he is about to get just such a chance. A 20 thousand mile trip across the United States of America with a visit to all 48 state capitals what better way to make history?

But declaring their intentions was the easy part of this journey. With mountains to cross, and rivers to forge it will take determination and a whole lot of heart to go from start to finish. Pinto is the story of this true event. An event that took just over 3 years to complete.

Pinto is told from the perspective of Pinto, a young Morab (Morgan/Arabian cross), who was the only horse to complete the entire journey.  The "Overland Westerners" set a date of June 1, 1915, in which to arrive in San Francisco and bring their epic trek to its conclusion.

Pinto is an interesting look back at the US when the world was vastly different from what we know today. Social media was non-existent at this time - spreading the news of this once-in-a-lifetime undertaking was all word of mouth and getting newspaper coverage at their various stops. It wasn't easy and the Overland Westerners had to work to obtain the funds they needed to provide their day-to-day needs. Sometimes the kindness of a stranger helped them along their way.

Though it is written for a younger audience others will enjoy this book as well. Readers of American History and fans of a good horse story will enjoy this newly revealed historical gem. I have to admit the description intrigued me but the cover sold me on this book and I was not disappointed. We have an old book that has been in the family for years titled The Mountain Pony and The Pinto Colt and Pinto, though very different, reminded me of this book published in 1947. There are moments where defeat seems the likely victor but these Overland Westerners are not about to give up while they can still draw breath. Will their dream become reality? Only time will tell...

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I offer my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Explosive Situation ~ Review

Explosive Situation
True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn
By Terri Reed

Detective Henry Roarke has been stuck in the office since he was falsely accused of using excessive force. Now with a new IA officer on the case, Henry is starting to feel the stress. He needs to be out on the street doing his job with his partner Cody. But until he is cleared of all charges he is stuck filing and training with the other K-9 officers.

Adding to Henry's stress is his little sister Riley. For the last 6 years, he and Riley have been it and she is eager to get out from under his protective wings. When a bombing threat is sent to Henry's phone he knows he has to act fast as Riley is in the vicinity of the threat location. IA officer Lieutenant Olivia Vance is more than a little annoyed when Detective Roarke leaves in the middle of her questioning. When Henry on restricted duties she feels compelled to go along with him to ensure that he follows protocol and finds his sister in time.

Olivia is good at her job but the animosity Internal Affairs officers face is not one of its perks. She's determined to get to the truth about the night in question. Henry seems on the up-and-up but there are no witnesses to verify either version of events. She needs to get a feed of how he works and whether he is as good as his fellow officers' claim.

Explosive Situation finds Henry and those close to him being targetted - does it have anything to do with the potential charges against Henry or is it something else? Only time will tell as Henry works to keep those close safe and to keep his heart unentangled, which is becoming harder to do the more he gets to know Olivia Vance.

This is yet another good read from the True Blue K-9 Unit series. This book follows the Brooklyn Unit but some of the officers that were in the original True Blue K-9 Unit series are well represented in this series. And come on everyone loves a good dog story and this one has dogs aplenty. Want to get away from your everyday routine? This is an excellent way to spend a few hours unwinding from your ordinary.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.
