Final Approach ~ Review

Final Approach
Lake City Heroes #4
By Lynette Eason

Kristine Duncan is about to enjoy a vacation with her friends. She just needs to finish this flight as the onboard air marshal, and she'll be free to relax. But then everything goes wrong as a passenger attempts to hijack the plane she's on. R&R is on hold as Kristine and her friends investigate just what happened, because something is just not adding up.

The deeper Kristine and FBI Special Agent Andrew Ross dig, the more it becomes apparent that someone is targeting one of them. All the clues seem to point to Andrew's past as an undercover agent. But how does this relate to the hijacking?

Final Approach is an intricate and deceptive mystery that has so many twists that you won't be able to easily determine who the mastermind is. And there is cheesecake, lots of it, you may want to have a slice or two on hand, because it's cheesecake. I recommend getting a couple of flavors or a sampler. This book was definitely a late-night, just-one-more-chapter read. I recommend it for Friday night if you don't get a Saturday shift. And the "villain"? Wowzers! That's all I'm saying. It is a must-read, top of the TBR stack book if you love Romantic Suspense.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
She's intent on investigating a sinister plot of revenge, and it will take all her courage to survive.

Air Marshal Kristine Duncan is not on duty when a hijacker attempts to seize control of the plane she and her friends are on as they head out on a much-needed vacation. Jumping into action and aided by FBI Special Agent Andrew Ross, Kristine thwarts the attack and the plane lands safely. But as the investigation into the incident gets underway, Kristine and Andrew are confused at every step. Nothing about the investigation goes as it should, and each layer they peel back just reveals another layer of perplexity.

As the two work together to navigate a web of deception, blame, and personal reckoning, they find there's more to this story than meets the eye--and more to love and admire about each other. They'll have to put their skills to the test--and their hearts on the line--to unravel the truth and ensure that justice prevails.

Of Dawn and Embers Cover Reveal

I'm thrilled to share the cover reveal for Of Dawn and Embers with you today.
This is the third and final book in the Fireborn Epic by Gillian Bronte Adams.

Now, first, a little about the book:

He rides a dawnling, a steed of light and glory, destined to restore.

Jakim Ha’Nor will save his people, or so says the prophecy that upended his life and drove his brothers to betray him. Now, he has returned as the dawnrider to fulfill his purpose and reconcile with his brothers—only to find himself embroiled in a war.

Captured in the fallout of a deadly attack, Rafi grapples with the ghosts of the past. His brother is alive but no longer himself, and Rafi will stop at nothing to save him. Farther up the coast, Ceridwen strives to reignite the embers of the rebellion to burn the empire down. When Rafi is sentenced to execution before the imperial court, Ceridwen must rally every spear and steed she can for a blistering strike at the heart of the capital.

But the empire’s schemes are already in motion, and Jakim’s two missions collide when an unexpected encounter with one of his brothers reveals the true threat behind the imperial thirst for ancient secrets. Hidden forces intend to unleash a cataclysmic power, spurring Ceridwen, Rafi, and Jakim to challenge the full, crushing might of the empire for the fate of the world.

Stars weep and ash falls as the tides of battle propel the Fireborn queen, the Sea-Demon prince, and the Dawnrider priest toward a meteoric clash in this thunderous series finale.

The Collector of Burned Books

The Collector of Burned Books
By Roseanna M. White

This book is, for the most part, set in 1940/1941 Paris. But we are given a glimpse of 1933, as a group of students gathers to burn books that don't fit their ideas. Christian Bauer is a professor of literature who hopes that someday Germany will again listen and allow ideas to flourish. Fast forward to 1940, as German troops move into and occupy Paris. First on Christian Bauer's to-do list: visit the various libraries throughout the city, examine all the books to determine which should be banned or sent to Germany.

Corinne Bastien has a claim on the books in The Library of the Burned Books; she tended them, and now they guard a secret. A secret that could doom her or be an instrument to resist the Germans. When Corinne first meets the man who is given charge of her library, she can't see past the uniform. But when her eyes are finally opened, the two find they have more in common than being professors of literature.

I found this to be a most intriguing book, the need to control ideas, either by destroying the books or shutting down the libraries. Reading this reminded me of the Zion Covenant books written by Brock and Bodie Thoene. I liked the main characters who were, for all intents and purposes, trapped in a world not of their making, trying to survive without betraying their souls to the devil. How does one protect those most dear without losing one's soul in the effort? This is what Corinne and Christian need to discover.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations, but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

In this gripping World War II historical about the power of words, two people form an unlikely friendship amid the Nazi occupation in Paris and fight to preserve the truth that enemies of freedom long to destroy.

Paris, 1940. Ever since the Nazi Party began burning books, German writers exiled for their opinions or heritage have been taking up residence in Paris. There they opened a library meant to celebrate the freedom of ideas and gathered every book on the banned list . . . and even incognito versions of the forbidden books that were smuggled back into Germany.

For the last six years, Corinne Bastien has been reading those books and making that library a second home. But when the German army takes possession of Paris, she loses access to the library and all the secrets she’d hidden there. Secrets the Allies will need if they have any hope of liberating the city she calls home.

Christian Bauer may be German, but he never wanted anything to do with the Nazi Party—he is a professor, one who’s done his best to protect his family as well as the books that were a threat to Nazi ideals. But when Goebbels sends him to Paris to handle the “relocation” of France’s libraries, he’s forced into an army uniform and given a rank he doesn’t want. In Paris, he tries to protect whoever and whatever he can from the madness of the Party and preserve the ideas that Germans will need again when that madness is over, and maybe find a lost piece of his heart.

But he hadn’t bargained on meeting a beautiful Parisian scholar who is clearly keeping as many secrets as he is. As Christian and Corinne try to discern each other’s true loyalties, forces beyond their control are making plans that could destroy everything they hold dear.

Cover Reveal ~ Heir of Light

Cover Reveal day!

That's right, Heir of Light
book four in the Blood of Kings: Legends series,
officially has a cover.
From the creative minds of
Jill Williamson and Niki Florica.

Available to preorder at:

Sir Rigil Barak came to Land’s End expecting a routine mission: investigate some rumors, spy on some nobles, and above all, play the perfect knight. Instead, he is reunited with his less-than-shining past, the same past that keeps him on the road, fleeing his father’s scorn instead of claiming his birthright. The past with a face he never thought he’d see again . . . at least, not outside his dreams.

Years of captivity to a mad scholar left Sethe with a face full of scars and one rule: never be trapped again. The last thing she wants is help from Rigil, the thief-turned-knight who broke her heart and ran off with the pieces years ago. But her old captor has found her again, lured by Sethe’s unique bloodvoicing power. With a few vials of his latest discovery, he could turn her into something worse than a prisoner. He could turn her into a weapon.

The good news: vials can be stolen, and Rigil and Sethe always did know how to pull off a heist. For Sethe, stopping Nedir will mean trusting Rigil to have her back without letting him anywhere near her heart. For Rigil, it means a second chance with the woman he once failed. She may not be willing to hand him her heart . . . but he was a thief long before he was a knight.

Waylaid ~ Review

Waylaid
Windy City Westons #1
By Jerusha Agen

Spring Weston is a rising star in the world of cycling, and she's determined to be the best. But when she learns the truth about the team she's on, she doesn't want anything to do with it. But before she can decide what she will do, her whole life is shattered. She's the victim of a hit-and-run accident.

Spring is officially the Weston family failure. Her father's biggest disappointment. She'll never ride a bike again. No, she's trapped by her broken body. If only the driver had killer her, then she would have at least not been left to endure her father's disgust and the pity of others.

Sergeant Torin Cotter has let people down too many times. He knows the feeling of such failure. When he is asked to take over the investigation of Spring's case, something just feels off to him. He can tell Spring is holding something back and that she is scared. Torin will discover the truth and do all he can to help Spring.

When his own past comes into play during his investigation, Spring may offer the only hope to overcome his pain. If only he could offer her the same. But he refuses to allow himself to connect with Spring. It's all about surviving until he learns the truth about his wife.

When a killer comes after Spring, Torin is determined to protect her, while Spring is more concerned about anyone losing their lives for her.

Waylaid is the first book in the Windy City Westons series. The Weston family siblings are focused on helping Spring overcome and conquer her depression over the fallout of the hit-and-run that left her paralyzed. I found it interesting how the family dynamics played out throughout this book. They had differences when it came to matters of faith, but they were all about loyalty to one another. No one messed with one of their own without the others rallying around them. The dynamics between the Westons came across as authentic and believable. This was an excellent and engaging read that kept me up way too late reading. The suspense was way too tempting. I wanted to know who and why, and it was definitely not what I was expecting.

I was provided a complimentary ARC copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

Someone wants to kill her. She wants the killer to finish the job.

Spring Weston will do anything to rise in the ranks of pro cycling and prove she isn’t the one failure of the five Weston siblings. Anything except cheat. When she learns of doping on her cycling team, she’s determined to uncover the truth. But she can’t if she’s dead.

Sergeant Torin Cotter may not be the hero the public thinks he is, but he recognizes fear when he sees it. When he takes over the investigation of the collision that landed Spring in the hospital, he’s compelled to protect her from whatever danger she’s in, even though he knows he might fail. Again.

Spring’s faith in God isn’t enough to help her face the living nightmare she awakened to after the accident. But neither she nor the handsome sergeant see the greater threat that’s coming until it’s too late.

If they’re going to survive, Spring and Torin will not only have to confront their worst fears—they’ll have to find a reason to live.

Arabella's Song ~ Coming Soon

Arabella's Song will be released on September 26, 2024!

Arabella's Song is a work of love, a project I thoroughly enjoyed and dedicated myself to.
It was created as a part of the
Arista Lost Kerchiefs Challenge (2023)
hosted by Kendra E. Ardnek.

The theme behind the challenge was retelling the Goose Girl. Creating a totally new story while keeping key elements intact was indeed a challenge. What did or didn't I like about the original? As with all fairy tales, there is a story underneath; capturing that essence was the end goal.

But what was that essence?
I'll let you discover that for yourself.

I further challenged myself by adding an additional layer by bringing in the Pied Piper of Hamlin.

I hope you will enjoy Arabella's Song,
the first book in the series The House of Sorah

The ebook is currently available for pre-order. But if you prefer to wait, there will also be a paperback edition.

Arabella's Song ~ Coming Soon

I'm thrilled to share the cover for my upcoming book
Arabella's Song.

Pre-order from Amazon

Arabella's Song cover reveal teaser photo showing a portion of the cover

This is a Goose Girl and Pied Piper retelling.
I know two stories one wouldn't expect to work together.
But they do with the Goose Girl taking the pivotal role throughout.

But before I share the cover here is a bit about the book:

A song calls her to her destiny until a betrayal threatens her future.

Arabella's future has long been decided, but she'll have
to fight for it
when her trusted servant betrays her.

All her life, a song has drawn her towards her destiny,
and now it
may very well be what saves her life.

With the aid of a talking horse, a mysterious stranger,
and a foreign dignitary,
Arabella is in a race against time to reclaim the
identity stolen from her in
this story based on the
Goose Girl and the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

This is the first book in The House of Sorah series.

Book cover for Arabella's Song by Meagan Myhren-Bennett shows a young woman with auburn hair pushing back a cloak. She is wearing a green satin dress with a silver belt. She is standing in a green field with a nearby stream beyond which a cloaked figure is playing a flute. There are trees and mountains in the distance. The scene has a serene but mysterious feel to it.

Murder in Highbury ~ Mini Review

Murder in Highbury
An Emma Knightley Mystery #1
By Vanessa Kelly

Emma Woodhouse now Emma Knightley, has given up matchmaking. She is perfectly content being married and doing all the tasks expected of her as the wife of the master of Donwell Abbey.

But Emma's life and indeed the lives of all who call Highbury home are disrupted when Augusta Elton is discovered murdered in the church. Such shocking news is not to be born! But with a murderer on the loose certain precautions must be taken.

When the investigation doesn't answer Emma's concerns she is determined to see that justice is found for Mrs. Elton. And Emma isn't about to let concerns be brushed off like an annoying fly. There is only one thing to be done--she must undertake the investigation herself.

With the same tenacity she used for matchmaking, Emma resolves to solve the travesty that has destroyed the peace that Highbury has long enjoyed. Emma's less than stellar matchmaking and idle gossip aside. And Mr. Woodhouse's complaints. And Miss Bates's excitable, talkative nature. So maybe peaceful isn't quite the right word but it was normal for Highbury and their greatest concern was chicken thieves not murderers.

My full review will be shared closer to the book's November release date so check back later for more on Emma's investigation.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Today, I'm thrilled to share the cover for
Madisyn Carlin's Shattered Revision.
This is the Sleeping Beauty-based
prequel of The Shattered Lands series.

I have to admit I love these books and can't wait to read this newest addition which will release on July 23, 2024.

About the Book:
Beware the truth, for it could cost you your life.

Locksmith-turned-soldier Canon Norr is finally free from war. When his best friend calls in a favor, however, he finds himself stepping right back into danger and potential bloodshed. Protecting the innocent woman targeted by evil schemers would be easy if she wasn’t so distracting and unlike any noble he’s ever before encountered.

Lady Silci Clanna spent most of her life in hiding, but when her people need a leader, she finds herself stepping forward and exposing her existence to those who’ve desired her death since she was born. Can her best friend and a handsome, yet ornery and sarcastic foreigner help her live long enough to see her people finally free from bloodshed and hardship? Or will her enemies finally succeed and end the Clanna line?

As desperation mounts and a malevolent plot is brought to light, Canon and Silci are confronted by danger at every turn. Hope wanes and danger grows, and with it a terrifying revelation—in order for most to survive, one must die.

Coming July 4, 2024 ~ True Love's Wish & Other Short Stories

I thrilled that you can soon read True Love's Wish & Other Short Stories.
Just a little about the stories.
There are three - True Love's Wish, The Decorator, and Forever Yours.
I loved writing each of these short stories, but (drops voice to a whisper)
don't tell the other stories but Forever Yours is my favorite.

Here is a short blurb for each story and a small snippet from each:

True Love's Wish:
With her brother about to propose to her best friend, Ashley makes a wish on the Christmas star for her own true love. What follows is a sweet story about finding love where we least expect it. Has all the good feels of a Hallmark movie without the snarky leading lady.

The Decorator:
Bri loves her job as a decorator, but this job has a winter surprise in store for her.

Forever Yours:
In a Cinderella/Sleeping Beauty retelling mashup, Ella lives a hundred years in the hope of awakening her prince. But the curse that has held a kingdom in an endless slumber isn't so easily defeated.
