And even more shocked when he doesn't rescind the offer after a meal with her parents.

Knowing Gage will never love her, Honora agrees to his offer. But the past has a firm grip on her, convincing her she'll never be enough. But Gage being Gage is determined to help Honora find herself, the self that has been buried beneath the lies that have ruled her life.

As Honora discovers herself, she makes friendships that allow healing and show her that love is as much a choice as it is a feeling. 

This is the third book in the Cornwall Brides series and while reading the book in order is best, one can read this book as a standalone title. The characters are engaging, and one can connect with them as they work through their hurts and fears. Because fear is most definitely a force in this book - fear of rejection, fear of never being enough, fear of loss. And then there is love and its power to heal and overcome fear, but only if it is allowed to take root and grow. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to fans of Regency era fiction.

to have a good marriage and a content life. That is all he wants now, and Honora
Berkeley makes the most sense.

 
Honora cannot believe that a handsome and wealthy man like Gage has any interest at
all in marrying her, even without love. She certainly has very little to recommend her,
but escaping her life of criticism and abandonment is something she cannot resist. But
what about the woman Gage had once loved? The one who was perfect for him and the
one who made him determined to abandon love? Are his feelings for her truly gone?
Will Honora ever have his affection along with his respect?

 Is a convenient, sensible marriage what Gage wants? Or will his capacity for love reignite under Honora’s influence?
