Positively, Penelope Skymar #2 By Pepper Basham
Penelope Edgewood is headed to Skymar to breathe life back into an old theater, as it is more than 100 years old and in need of some help. Before moving temporarily to Skymar, she is communicating with a group of residents via a group online forum - no names given, just letters. Sounds interesting - complete anonymity. The first part of the book is very much told through text/chats between Penny and her siblings and the group forum she was part of. This is an interesting way of moving the story along and also spreading certain incidents out, as Penny has a unique way of relaying information in a piecemeal fashion. She actually reminds me of a dog who gets distracted by the local wildlife - whatever crosses her path takes her off on a different path of thought.
As the book progresses, we actually experience Penny interacting with those who call the island of Skymar home. Soon the story becomes more personal and, I'll admit, easier to follow than Penny's meandering thoughts. And Penny just might find something she wasn't expecting - a bit of romance or at least the promise of a chance.
Overall, I would say this is a good diversionary read when you need to give your mind a break from the every day (like excessive heat). This is the second book in a series and can totally be read on its own; I did this because I didn't realize that this was part of a series - but I do want to know what came before, so my TBR list just grew.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own. About the Book
Title: Positively, Penelope Told mostly through letters, texts, and email, this contemporary romance will charm its way into hearts as Penelope rescues a theater and discovers her true self in the process.
Penelope Edgewood is practically positive in every way, so when, fresh out of college, she is awarded a paid internship to help save a century-old theater on the island of Skymar, she jumps at the chance. After all, a crumbling theater needs the special touch of someone who reveres all things vintage and adores the stage.PURCHASE LINKS: Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Bookshop | Christianbook | BookBub
