The Heart of San Francisco Book 1
By Julie Lessman
Cassidy McClare's heart has been broken and she's determined to never again allow any man close enough to do it again. Jamie McKenna is determined to capture Cassie's heart and the fortune that he thinks comes with it. But Cassie is an oil heiress whose fields have run dry.
Cassie is unconventional and Humble, Texas society never accepted her, until Mark stole her heart. But when her fortune dried up, Mark left her for a more profitable match.
But can Cassie trust Jamie with her heart?
Jamie is determined to put as much distance between him and Barbary Coast where he was raised. Working for Logan McClare's law firm and his friendship with the McClare family is helping him make the contacts he needs to succeed. But Jamie is not focused on himself alone, he is supporting his mother and crippled younger sister. He also wants to clean up the Barbary Coast so that the downtrodden who are forced to live and work there can achieve something better for themselves and their families as well!
Who is this enigma named Jamie McKenna and will he come to care for Cassie for who she is? When Cassie sets rules for Jamie to follow before she will let him court her, will Jamie be able to follow through and gain her trust? Or will faith in God be an insurmountable obstacle that will keep them from discovering true love?
A secondary story is one concerning Aunt Cait and Uncle Logan. Years ago Cait and Logan were engaged when Logan broke Cait's heart. When Cait found love with his brother Liam and married Liam, Logan realized what he had lost. Liam died a year and a half ago and Logan is hoping for a second chance to woo the woman who has held his heart all these years.
Cait shares with Cassie the pain that she too has dealt with, but she tells Cassie that the most important thing to look for in any man is a deep faith and relationship with God. Can Aunt Cait's advice protect Cassie from another broken heart?
There are moments when Cassie and Jamie have a clash of wills and it leaves you with a smile on your face. I also love Cassie's skills when it comes to billiards and poker.
