Armchair BEA 2012 Interview Questions

1 Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

My name is Meagan.  I started reviewing books in 2000.  My blogging has been part of my online presence for about 1-1/2 years.  I got into blogging because I liked the idea of helping a book get noticed through bogging tours.

What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?

I'm currently reading Prophet by J.R. Larson, Arctic Wargames by Ethan Jones, The Anniversary Waltz by Darrel Nelson, just to name a few.  So far my favorite books from 2012 have been Candlewax, Love Twelve Miles Long and The Tales of Goldstone Wood.

3 Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.

I live on a small hobby farm and am a dach-aholic (dachshund lover).

4 What is your favorite feature on your blog (i.e. author interviews, memes, something specific to your blog)?

I love doing author interviews and the chance to get to know the person behind the book that I just finished reading.

5 What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?

Lackanay - from Candlewax, I'd like to see the trees that always burn. I'd also like to see Narnia just because.

  3. My aunt had 3 Dach's and I loved them to death. They are such sweet dogs with very good tempers. How cool is it that you live on a small farm and can probably have quite a few little pups running around :)

    1. We currently have 11 dachshunds & 2 lab mixes. Several of them have been rescues and the local vets call us when they need to find a home for unwanted and abused doxies!

  4. Yay a like mind! I started doing reviewing in about 2000 too, but on a much smaller scale. It just went crazy from there...then I started my blog in early 2011.

  5. Since you started reviewing books a decade before you started blogging, who read the reviews? Did you write reviews for newspapers or magazines?

    1. Actually it was a project for my college study of children's lit. There were on-line sites that want people to review children's products for them. They'd send me books and I'd review them and post on Kaboose Network (out of Canada). But when some of the anti-terrorism laws went into effect they ended this program as shipping to the US was too costly, but some of my reviews are still online.

  7. Author interviews are so much fun! For some reason, it never occurred to me that authors are real people with real personalities who enjoy talking to their readers.

Pleased to meet you, and thanks for stopping by my Armchair BEA Intro Post.

    1. Yes they are. My 5 year old doxie Winston loves to break into the room with the computer and sit there watching the screen whenever he gets the chance. We have yet to find a lock that he can't open in the house.

  9. I'd love to visit Narnia, too. At first, that question stumped me, but now I've seen a lot of great answers to which I agree! How about the Shire, too? Happy BEA Week!

  12. Wow, I can't believe you've been reviewing for so long! You must have read so many books by now! Also how did you get into doing author interviews? I've never done anything like that but it seems like most bloggers enjoy it. Any tips for starting out?

    1. I actually started doing reviews by offering that as an option whenever an author used my contact option to request a book review. If I'd agree to do a review, I'd also offer to do an interview. Another option is if you do reviews for some smaller publishing houses to approach them about doing a review and an interview for a title. I've also contacted authors directly and requested an interview so have replied favorably and others never respond. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the visit and question!

  24. I love getting to know authors better through interviews. I used to do them on my blog, but they take so much time I had to let it go.

  25. So nice to meet you Meagan! I'm a little slow in replying to everyone from ABEA, so I read all your ABEA posts together :D I haven't heard of those books but Candlewax sounds interesting! Trees that never stop burning, that sounds kind of beautiful. Narnia would be a fun place to visit for sure, although I wouldn't want to be found by the White witch (I think that's what she's called?)

I hope you had as fantastic of a week as I did! Hope to see you around :)
