A Nanny for the Rancher's Twins ~ Review

Welcome to the Blog + Review Blitz for
A Nanny for the Rancher's Twins by Heidi Main,

A Nanny for the Rancher's TwinsA Nanny for the Rancher's Twins
By Heidi Main

Laney Taylor has plans for her late aunt and uncle's ranch, and they don't involve allowing the neighbor's cattle to roam everywhere freely. But Ethan McCaw isn't about to give up on the land that he has been leasing. If he hopes to keep his family's ranch going, he needs to convince Laney to change her mind. Which is easier said than done.

Laney and Ethan are both focused on pursuing their dream - Ethan of keeping his ranch as a family business and Laney turning her ranch into a wedding venue. But Ethan needs to access to Laney's land that he has been leasing the rights to for years. And Laney needs the land for her wedding venues but she also needs the funds the lease provides. Can they reach a compromise? Or will both their dreams and goals be lost to them forever?

When Ethan offers his assistance in exchange for six weeks of help with his three-year-old twin daughters, neither he nor Laney expected anything but a mutually beneficial short-term deal. Neither expected to have their hearts get involved. And that just won't do as both have a history of relationship failures that have made them vow never again. But twin girls didn't figure into their equations.

A Nanny for the Rancher's Twins finds two people who are more than a little surprised to find that achieving their dream just may cost the other their dream. Is it possible for dreams to change? Can a compromise be worked out so that both can come true?

Throughout, Laney and Ethan are struggling with betrayals in their pasts that are keeping them from accepting what they truly want in life. Can the betrayals have caused too much distrust and raised too many walls to ever be breached? And what if there are two adorable three-year-old heart-stealing twins involved?

This is a sweet contemporary book that deals with a whole lot of past hurts that have kept both Ethan and Laney from seeking out love. But sometimes, what our head tells us is safe disagrees with what the heart wants. And overcoming past hurts and betrayals can be a major hindrance in living life to its fullest. But how does one change? How can trying to be safe actually cause more hurt than good? These are the issues that the two are left to try to figure out, and we, as readers, are brought along on their journey. I think it is interesting how they are trying to allow two vastly different businesses to work together in the same area - a wedding venue and a cattle ranch. Living next door to cattle, I can just imagine the cleaning that would need doing before anyone in a wedding dress would want to wear their dress in that field, no matter how beautiful the view from the hilltop. Just saying cows can be a tad messy! Overall this was a nice read with not a lot of anything other than normal day-to-day living and the unexpected problems that it can bring, which admittedly can, at times, be overwhelming.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion, all thoughts expressed are my own.

Anything But Plain ~ Review

Anything But Plain
By Suzanne Woods Fisher

Lydie Stoltzfus has always been the "trouble child" in David Stoltzfus's family, and the scrutiny she was under only grew once he was bishop. She knows her intentions might be good, but somehow, something always goes wrong, getting her into a mess. Worse, she can't keep a job - some last mere hours before she's asked to leave (or, in some cases, ordered away).

As Lydie struggles with her inability to fit in, her neighbor, Nathan Yoder, wants to use organic farming methods on the family farm. But change doesn't come easy, and Nahan's family is all into pesticides and thinking more is better.

Anything But Plain is a standalone title set in Suzanne Woods Fisher's much-loved Stoney Ridge community. But when her "non-Amish" Aunt Ruth (aka Dok) discovers Lydie's struggles, she could hold the key to helping Lydie, giving her hope that leaving all she knows and loves might not be her only choice.

This book looks at Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and its effects on not only the life of the person with it but how it affects those around them - friends and family. But the secondary storyline of organic farming versus pesticides/herbicides is timely and important. And somehow, the author manages to weave these two threads into her story so that it doesn't feel forced or preachy. I appreciated the insights this book offers. This would be an excellent book club selection as there is much to discuss.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
It's not easy being the bishop's daughter, especially for Lydie Stoltzfus. She's not like other Amish girls, as much as she wishes she were. The only thing she does well is disappoint others. Leaving her family and church seems unbearable, but staying might be worse.

Knowing Lydie is "between" jobs, the local doctor asks her to fill in at the front desk for a few months. To Lydie, this is a boon. It gives her time to figure out how she's going to say goodbye to her neighbor, Nathan Yoder--the main reason she needs to leave Stoney Ridge. Nathan claims he's in love with her, but she knows she's not good enough for him. If in doubt, Nathan's father reminds her frequently.

As Dok spends time with Lydie, she recognizes symptoms of a disorder rare among the Amish. She offers treatment for Lydie. But will it be enough to make her stay? Or has help come too late?

Bestselling and award-winning author Suzanne Woods Fisher invites you back to Stoney Ridge, a small town that feels like an old friend.

Quest of Fire: Desperation ~ Review

Welcome to the Blog Tour for
Quest of Fire: Desperation by Brett Armstrong,

Quest of Fire: Desperation
Quest of Fire: Desperation
Quest of Fire #4
By Brett Armstrong

War has come to Ecthelowall, and the hopes that the Commonwealth can be restored are about to be dealt another severe blow. Thomas Fenwrest's life was changed forever following his parents' deaths. Taken in by his uncle, Baron Fenwrest, Thomas is being mentored by Sir Hurstwell when they are tasked with moving the heirs to the ancient throne of Ecthelowall to safety. But the danger is much closer than they realized, and soon they are in a fight for their lives.

This book has a high level of drama as treachery, and unexpected aid comes into play. This is the fourth book in the series, and it is a worthy addition to the series. I'm looking forward to seeing how exactly everything comes together. The various threads are heading seemingly toward a certain path, but challenges and obstacles keep getting in the way, diverting our heroes and separating them at times. This time we only have quick glimpses of what is taking place for the old storyteller and Aria, as Jason's fate is not yet known.

I have read all the books in this series, and let me just say you have to read these in order! This book is excellent reading, and the Quest of Fire series is perfect for fans of The Chronicles of Narnia or The Lord of the Rings. I would say it is in between them in reading difficulty. But I would say middle-grade readers and older will love these books. And, like me, if you delve into this world, you will be wondering what will happen next. I highly recommend this book and series and feel that it will appeal to home-schoolers.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own.

Release Date: September 13, 2022

Guarding his nation’s last hope, a teen must escape enemy lands.

While Anargen, Caeserus, and Bertinand are held captive in Stormridge, the war to restore Ecthelowall’s Commonwealth has been waged for months. Their friend Terrillian is on its frontline and hopes are high.

For Barons Fenwrest and Sornfold the fight is too close to their children, whose union represents the only viable challenge to the Monarchists' claim to Ecthelowall’s ancient throne. Enter Thomas Fenwrest, an orphan and page to Sir Hurstwell, who is captain of Baron Fenwrest’s guard. The pair must escort the teens to Castle Yerst expecting boredom to be their only danger. Everything quickly spirals out of control when the Monarchists somehow deliver a devastating blow to the Restoration army, and Thomas and Sir Hurstwell face the increasingly difficult task of keeping their charges alive. Ancient sorcery and bitter grudges combine to ensnare them. As desperation sets in for the Restoration and Thomas, to where will they turn for hope?

Body of Evidence ~ Review

Body of Evidence
Triple Threat #3
By Irene Hannon

Grace Reilly is the last Reilly sister without a man in her life - her sisters blame it on her career choice as she is highly unlikely to meet a living man as a pathologist. Cate and Eve were right until Grace became someone's target. And then she noticed a few deaths that raised questions in her mind.

Sheriff Nate Cox is new to the job, but he is convinced that the "attacks" on Grace are more than a coincidence, especially when it looks like her suspicions might be something more. But with no evidence proving foul play is going to prove more than a little challenging.

In typical Irene Hannon fashion, we are taken on a winding road to get from page one to the conclusion. We are given a glimpse into the killer's mind, but the identity is kept hidden. We are offered several possible suspects but no clear clues. I will admit I had a few suspicions as to the killer's identity but nothing absolute. I loved the suspense - a couple of times, I was expecting something to happen, but nothing untoward occurred.

I love how the Triple Threat series has so many intersecting layers that could be connected to the main crime but, at the same time, are somehow unique and unto themselves. The Reilly sisters have each managed to get themselves into a mess, but each book could be read as a standalone, so if you haven't read the first two books, you'll be able to jump into this book without any issues. But I'd recommend going back to enjoy them later. Irene Hannon in no way disappoints with this book.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion ~ all thoughts provided are my own.

About the Book:
Forensic pathologist Grace Reilly has seen her share of unusual deaths in rural Missouri. But when she begins to notice a curious pattern in autopsies of elderly residents whose demise appears to be natural, she takes her concerns to Sheriff Nate Cox.

Nate is skeptical about the link Grace is seeing between the deaths--and her suspicions of foul play. But her persistence is compelling. Once she finally convinces him her theory is credible and they join forces to investigate, danger follows. Because exposing the truth could destroy several lives--including Grace's.

Queen of inspirational romantic suspense Irene Hannon closes out her bestselling Triple Threat series with this gripping tale of secrets revealed and romance sparked.
