The Nature of a Lady ~ Review

The Nature of a Lady
The Secret of the Isles #1
By Roseanna M White

Lady Elizabeth Sinclair, known as Libby to her family and friends, well if she had any friends, is planning an escape. Her brother is determined to see her married to a man she absolutely can't stand, well maybe he's not that bad, but she doesn't want to marry him. And with time she hopes her brother can be persuaded that Libby doesn't need to be married off to his closest friend. So with her microscope in tow, she plans to spend the summer examining the flora and fauna that can be found on the Isles of Scilly.

But Libby's plans are soon upended when strangers start delivering parcels to her cottage for "Elizabeth". There is just one problem she is the wrong Elizabeth and she is quickly caught up in something which she is unprepared to face.

Oliver Tremayne calls the Isles of Scilly home as has his family for generations. He is content with the life he's living - a gentleman of no importance to most of England and a clergyman to his own. But when his sister disappears he finds that she has somehow created a mess that has caught Lady Elizabeth in its web. To get to the truth and to protect Libby from whatever Beth has done he will have to work together with Libby and her "maid" Mabena to unravel this mystery.

But more than mistaken identity is at play as they soon discover. Legends of pirate treasure have brought danger to the Isles and where danger lurks anything can happen.

The Nature of a Lady is the first book in Roseanna M White's newest series - The Secret of the Isles. And believe me when I say this is a not-to-be-missed book. If you have ever read her in the past you will not be disappointed as a new cast of characters takes the stage. I loved getting to know Oliver, Libby, Mabena, Casek, Mamm-wynn, and Tas-gwyn. And Libby's brother Bram - well you'll have to decide for yourself your feelings about him - I will say he is a tad grumpy - especially when Libby sets out to foil his plans for her future.

If you love Historical Fiction and Romance you will want to move this book to the top of your TBR list. And who can resist a treasure hunt that might discover the greatest treasure of all - love?

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Danger on the Loch ~ Review with Giveaway

Danger on the Loch JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Danger on the Loch by Paige Edwards, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

Danger on the Loch
Danger on the Loch
A Pressley-Coombes Romantic Suspense
By Paige Edwards

First off I have to say I just love this cover. Yes, I'll admit it the cover was what first drew me to this book and then I read the book blurb, and then how could I say no when given a chance to read this book.

The opening prologue hints at what is to come and with the first few chapters one can't help but wonder just how this will play out in the rest of the storyline. Danger on the Loch is excellent reading, and if you are a fan of romantic suspense you will LOVE this book.

Now I will say it is obvious from little remarks made throughout this book that this is part of a series and it is not the first but the book in no way felt as if I had been missing something by not reading the other books. The story is complete in and of itself. I loved getting to meet Paisley Clark, who is about to get her fondest wish to learn who her father is and to actually get to meet him. Paisley is about to get the shock of her life when she travels to Scotland to meet the man her mother refused to acknowledge.

I also liked getting to know James Pressley-Coombes, who happens to be one of Paisley's dearest childhood friends. And by happenstance James is working in Scotland able to provide Paisley with the support she needs as she navigates this new part of her life. When their longstanding friendship shows signs of becoming something more Paisley and James are not about to rush into anything. And soon danger seeks them out and worse it could cost them their very lives.

So set aside several hours, turn off your phone, fix yourself a cup of tea or coffee, hang up a do not disturb sign, and delve into this book. It will rank up there as some of your best spent hours and you won't regret it.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but to provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

She arrives in the Highlands only to discover that she isn’t Paisley Clark at all but a titled lady, the daughter of a Scottish duke. Despite the warm welcome and the comfort of James’s presence, dangerous undercurrents surround Castle Rannoch, her father’s estate. Overwhelmed, Paisley takes refuge in her camera and James’s steady presence to provide a sense of normalcy in her rags-to-riches transformation. But her once-easy relationship with James is changing, deepening beyond friendship in a surprising twist of events. Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table ~ Review

Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table
It's Time to Win the Battle of Your Mind...
By Louie Giglio

When we are in the midst of troubles and stresses of life don't ask God to get you out of whatever you are facing. Rather THANK God for being there with you. In the Psalms we read about God preparing a place for us at His table in the midst  of our enemies.  But all too often this table that is meant for just us and God finds Satan joining us because we invite him to the table. We allow our fears, our anger, our doubts, our feelings to issue an invitation to the enemy of our soul and our Savior.

All we need to allow the Devil to join us at our table is to give him the slightest opening. We need to refuse him access and call on Jesus's name to turn him away.  Wanting more of the material parts of the world, succumbing to temptations, dissatisfaction with your life is a big flashing invitation to our table.  Anything that is a normal part of our life the Devil can use against it. He can be empathetic - just look at how Eve was tempted to sin. He wants to steal everything we value, break our relationship with God, destroy the connections we have with our family and friends.

Sometimes we don't even realize that we have been enjoying years in the presence of our enemy because we welcomed him to our table not realizing who we were offering an open invitation to. And once the enemy has joined us he isn't willing going to leave our table. Rather he wants us to leave the table that God has prepared for us, convincing us that the next table over is better than what God has offered to us. The freedom offered by the enemy finds us shackling our selves to him. We've allowed him to lead us away from God fully entrenched in the lies he has been whispering in our ears. He appeals to our basic needs with false promises. Temptation isn't sin if we reject the temptation BUT if we act on it whether in thought or deed is sin. Stop your thoughts before they lead you on the path to Hell. Don't compound your sin with more sin - this is never the answer to feeling better. Sin is the opening the Devil needs to condemn us - throwing our shortcomings back at us.

When we are in the presence of God, our Good Shepherd, He provides us with encouragement as we go through the dark valleys of life. He travels the route with us always offering us His hand if only we don't turn away seeking the false promises of ease. God allows us to face the challenges before us but He is our biggest advocate in the encouragement department.  We need to remember that God HAS OUR BACKS! And there is always a way out of these lies. it isn't easy but it is doable if only we listen to God instead of the enemy and open our eyes to see with faith. We can counter the enemy's attacks by calling on the power of Jesus's name.

It is never too late to get out of sin before it happens. Each way out gets smaller the closer you get to sin. When given an out take it. Sin will never give you the lasting feeling that you will get from an intimate relationship with God. Take time to spend time alone with God - learn His voice so the enemy cannot deceive you into listening to the wrong voice.  You can be the person He created you to be and it starts in your mind, your heart, and your soul.  This is where the battle line with the enemy is drawn and the choice is yours. Choose wisely your life depends on it.

I really enjoyed (though enjoyed isn't quite the right word for it) this audiobook. This is one that you'll want to keep handy and listen to more than once. There is much to help you grow in your relationship with God and to help you see past the blinders that are distorting your vision.  It is time to take the place in the story of your life that God has written for you. Don't let your story be destroyed by reaching out to God today. God exalted Jesus and we should exalt Him in our own life and not bow to the lies and temptations of the enemy of all. I highly recommend this book it has much to offer for believers and to those who are seekers standing at the crossroad.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this audiobook with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Audiobook:

Louie Giglio helps you find encouragement, hope, and strength in the

midst of any valley as you reject the enemy voices of
fear, rage, lust, insecurity, anxiety, despair, temptation, or defeat.

Scripture is clear: the Enemy is a liar who will stop at nothing to tempt you into poor decisions and self-defeating mindsets, making you feel afraid, angry, anxious, or defeated. It is all too easy for Satan to weasel his way into a seat at the table intended for only you and your King. But you can fight back.

Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table outlines the ways to overcome those lies so you can find peace and security in any challenging circumstance or situation. With the same bold, exciting approach to Scripture as employed in Goliath Must Fall and his other previous works, pastor Louie Giglio examines Psalm 23 in fresh ways, highlighting verse 5: “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”

You can find freedom from insecurity, temptation, and defeat—if you allow Jesus, the Shepherd, to lead the battle for your mind and heart. This spiritual warfare book for those who are leery of spiritual warfare books will resonate with Louie’s core Passion tribe as well as with Christians of all ages who want to live a triumphant life in God.

The Mirror and the Curse ~ Review

The Mirror and the Curse
Faraway Castle #5
By J.M. Stengl

In The Siren and the Scholar, we got to meet Princess Eddi and she's back for another Faraway Castle story in which she is the princess taking center stage. Every year Eddi has a new prince crush and Prince Fidelio is this year's recipient of her affections. She's known him almost forever or so it seems, and he is nice, sweet a little shy, and a prince so her father should approve. There is just one problem, well maybe two. First problem, Eddi's nemesis Raquel has set her sights on Fidelio and he is more than happy to split his time between them both. The second problem, her longtime friend Kai would be perfect boyfriend material except he's a dwarf and not a royal.

But when someone targets Eddi and her winged horse Snow she has even more trouble than she can handle on her own. Using magic for nefarious reasons is frowned upon and worse it has put both Eddi and Snow in danger. But who has the skills for such attacks is something Eddi can answer. She needs help and the staff at Faraway Castle are more than willing to help her. And as she needs specialized training with Snow to prepare for the upcoming Faraway Castle Cup she has the perfect reason to escape to the comfort and familiarity she has known for many summers.

If you have read any of the previous Faraway Castle books you know what to expect and you will not be disappointed with The Mirror and the Curse. Each new addition to the series moves into my read recommendations and this one is no exception. I love this book it is just so good.

I was provided an advanced copy of this book with no expectations but to provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Now a word of warning this book will be released later this month and you don't want to miss out on getting it as soon as possible so be sure to preorder it to get it on release day May 28, 2021!

About the Book:

This summer, Princess Eddi intends to win both

Prince Fidelio’s heart and the Faraway Castle Cup!

A summer of training for the race at the resort with her winged horse and Kai the dwarf sounds ideal. Better still, Prince Fidelio decides to join her . . . so her summer plan is a done deal. Or it would be if Fidelio would behave like a sensible boyfriend. And Kai? Sidekick dwarfs are not supposed to be confusingly attractive.

A series of mysterious magic attacks merely adds to Eddi’s trouble. But who is out to get her? Her nemesis Raquel is the obvious villain, but she doesn’t have magic. Eddi’s annoyingly perfect stepmother does, however. Worse still, there’s rumor of a dangerous magical artifact on the loose . . .

Can Eddie power through one obstacle after another and achieve both her summer goals? Only if her heart will cooperate!

If you love adventure, humor, and sweet happily-ever-afters, try the Faraway Castle series today. Each of these interconnected fairy-tale retellings can be read as a stand-alone. You won’t want to miss any of these plucky heroines as they fight to conquer the odds and win their true loves.

When Stars Rain Down ~ Review with GIveaway

When Stars Rain Down
By Angela Jackson-Brown

It's 1936, and in Parsons, Georgia, the tension and anger are as hot if not hotter than the temperatures. And no relief is in sight. The Klan is determined to keep the residents of Colored Town in their place and Opal Pruitt is caught in the middle of everything. Soon to turn 18, Opal's life is in a state of flux with everything that is going on around her and her own conflicted feelings.

This is an emotionally moving and heartbreaking story. Everything that takes place during this summer will literally move one to tears. It is an excellent work though difficult at times as Opal deals with what life is currently giving her.

Hated and demeaned for the color of her skin, Opal's life though difficult is not awful. She has family and friends who love, respect and care for her. But on the cusp of adulthood, her world starts crashing in around her. Seeing the world through her eyes isn't easy but I would highly recommend this book to adult and older teen readers. This book is both beautiful and ugly at the same time much like the fallen and broken world that we live in.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
This summer has the potential to change everything.
The summer of 1936 in Parsons, Georgia, is unseasonably hot, and Opal Pruitt can sense a nameless storm coming. She hopes this foreboding feeling won’t overshadow her upcoming eighteenth birthday or the annual Founder’s Day celebration in just a few weeks. As hard as she works in the home of the widow Miss Peggy, Opal enjoys having something to look forward to.
But when the Ku Klux Klan descends on Opal’s neighborhood of Colored Town, the tight-knit community is shaken in every way. Parsons’s residents—both Black and white—are forced to acknowledge the unspoken codes of conduct in their post-Reconstruction era town. To complicate matters, Opal finds herself torn between two unexpected romantic interests, awakening many new emotions. She never thought that becoming a woman would bring with it such complicated decisions about what type of person she wants to be.
In When Stars Rain Down, Angela Jackson-Brown introduces us to a small Southern town grappling with haunting questions still relevant today—and to a young woman whose search for meaning resonates across the ages.
