For Phoebe, Jalon's letters are the highlight of her life. Living with her aunt is a burden that she has to live with. It is the price she must pay for the choices she made. And revealing the truth is something she doesn't want to do as her friendship with Jalon isn't something she is willing to risk. But Jalon wants to meet Phoebe and to share his own past with her and his hopes for the future.

When the truth comes out Phoebe and Jalon must decide how next to proceed especially when Phoebe's aunt discovers this friendship and Phoebe's future is in doubt.

Those who enjoy Amish fiction will enjoy this offering from Kathleen Fuller as she starts a new series with this book. And who doesn't enjoy getting a letter in the mail? I know I've always enjoyed getting news from a friend, the surprise of a letter in the mailbox and the anticipation of revealing what news will be revealed.

This story is set in 1910 and it is interesting to run parallels to today and people's stance on immigrants. Fear that these new people will steal the jobs, the opportunities that belong to others has been a motivation in this intolerance throughout history.

And when she starts spending time with Walt, Lana is left with the discomfort of keeping a secret that would be a gift for Walt - a chance at more time with the man who has been there for him over the years. But LeVan needs this time to create his final masterpiece and Lana is his chance to do this.

Lana's time in Idaho is turning into more than she could have ever expected though worries about her best friend Ingrid have her just a little worried. And when her six weeks are up will Lana's heart finally have thawed? Or will her heart return to the icy state she has always felt it has been in?

This is a delightful contemporary work that deals with life and its ups and downs and the pain of reaching out to another and caring. This is a story of family. A story of community. A story of belonging. The descriptive settings make me want to visit Bluegill and see these gorgeous views though I could do without a flash flood and a dramatic rescue though this added an unexpected touch of excitement.

This is the delightful sequel to The Bear and the Nightingale. Picking up where the previous book ended with Vasya returning to the hidden forest home of Morozko. But this is not the beginning of this part of the story.

Remote peasant villages are being destroyed - burned to the ground, peasants killed, and select girls spirited away. But all traces of these marauders vanish almost as soon as they leave as if they had never been. Vasya's brother Sasha with the Grand Prince of Moscow Dmitrii Ivanovich upon receiving a plea for help in hunting this threat head out into the wildness. But nothing of these bandits can be discovered until a lone horse bearing a most unusual and unexpected rider.

Fleeing her home following the death of her father and her sole protection Vasya has determined to see the world that lies beyond what she has always known. Morozko warns against such a dangerous undertaking but Vasya being Vasya pays little heed to his efforts to turn her to home. The world is full of wonders that she never imagined and unexpected dangers. When her path crosses that of her brother Vasya presents herself as the brother that Sasha left behind eight years previous.

In a world in which women were expected to marry or enter the convent, Vasya is an oddity. She refuses to be something other than what she wants to be but her defiance could cost her everything. This is a medieval Russian fairytale that is filled with a hidden spirit world that is losing ground in the minds of the people. But Vasya's life has been filled with the listening of these tales and unlike most she believes.

The Girl in the Tower is for those who have a fondness for tales of folklore and impossible love. Set in Russia before the days of the Czar this story has a feel about it that captivates the reader as Vasya learns who she is at her heart. Morozko is a character that one can't get a true feel for but he is of two personalities - the being Vasya knows and the being of lore.

If you have not yet read The Bear and the Nightingale it is a must to read this book first. Without this background, one will not fully grasp the story or the characters and how they fit together in this setting. With winter soon to be upon us what better way to appreciate a warm cup of cider and a cozy blanket than to enter the world of the winter-king.

This is the second book in the Hidden Justice series and this book is just as good a read as the first. The high-stakes legal cases that are being pursued are ones that have a personal investment involved in them as these lawyers fight with their heart. The story has an intensity that builds as everything Emilie is dealing with comes together right at the end. And believe me when I say it could go either way. If you like good fiction or legal thrillers this is one book you can't skip. Haven't read the first book Beyond Justice? That's okay this book is easy to get into and the main characters are different though they are in both books. And when you finish one you can start in on the other one.
