Right Cross ~ Review

Right Cross
A Shepherd Suspense Novel #3
By Andrew Huff

Former CIA agent and ex-pastor John Cross finds himself on the wrong side of the law. Imprisoned in the worst prison in England and stuck between two rival prison gangs - life couldn't get much bleaker. But not everything is as it appears as his on pause girlfriend Christine Lewis soon discovers.

Cyberterrorists have a plan in place and it will disrupt the world as we now know it (but isn't that always the case with those who are out to topple world governments and economic markets). It is a race across international borders and against time to stop these cyber masterminds who are master manipulators before they go too far and can't be stopped.

Right Cross is the third book in the Shepherd Suspense series and it is unputdownable reading. There are more than a few unexpected twists that keep the reader's suspense level at high. And a word of advice, read books 1 and 2 first, it's not that you won't enjoy this book without reading them first just that you'll better understand it with the backstory firmly in your mind. Excellent reading that you don't want to miss. And there just might be a fairly happy ending to be had if they can all survive what is coming.

I was provided a complimentary copy with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

Heart-pounding action meets spiritual choices in this thrilling finale to John Cross's saga

First he left the CIA. Then he left pastoral ministry. Now John Cross has been imprisoned in one of Great Britain's most infamous prisons. Has he reached the end of his rope? Or is this another move in a dangerous spy game?

Christine Lewis, United News Network's rising star television anchor, is determined to find out. But in her pursuit of answers, Christine finds herself at the center of a cyberterrorist plot to alter the balance of power in the world. From the English coastline to the Rocky Mountains, John must partner with the CIA and MI6 in a race against the clock to stop the threat of nuclear war and save the lives of everyone he holds dear.

The concluding story in the Shepherd Suspense trilogy is a globe-trotting, action-packed adventure with threads of biblical truth woven in. Fans of high-octane thrillers will be on the edge of their seats with Right Cross.

Never Miss ~ Review

Never Miss
By Melissa Koslin

Kadance Tolle has spent the last few years running and avoiding any lasting interactions with anyone. But when she comes across what appears to be an assassination attempt she can't help herself she has to intervene. She just didn't realize exactly what she was getting herself into by saving Lyndon Vaile's life.

Lyndon's life has been dedicated to researching the Ebola virus. After its personal effect on his life, he is determined to find a way to end its hold. What he didn't expect was to find evidence that could have been engineered and now someone is about to use it to possibly bring the US Government down.

What Lyndon and Kadance can't figure out is why he is being targeted. With limited time to piece together the little evidence they have, they also have to stay ahead of the very people who have targeted them.

Never Miss is fast-paced suspense that has unexpected twists as the various pieces of the past come together. This book is not a gentle or clean read but it does not have any graphic scenes of violence either. Both Kadance and Lyndon are damaged by their pasts and trust is not something they can easily give but to succeed they have to reach out and lower the barriers that they have erected. But how does one extend trust when it has been broken? This is something that takes a risk and makes one vulnerable - something most people have trouble doing.

Overall I'd say this is a well-researched, well-written book that those looking for suspense, intrigue, and romance well-blended will enjoy. My only complaint was the focus on physical attributes, I mean I get it, both main characters are attracted to each other and they are in excellent physical shape, but I found it a bit repetitive once it got further into the book.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
Former CIA sniper Kadance Tolle possesses a special set of skills and a rare pedigree. She comes from a family of assassins, and by saving Lyndon Vaile's life she risks being found by them. Despite the danger, Kadance feels compelled to help Lyndon discover who is after him--and his research that seems to prove that the Ebola virus was manmade and is about to be weaponized.

With shadowy figures pursuing them and a Mastermind watching their every move, Kadance and Lyndon must scramble to stop an impending bioattack at the State of the Union address. But their warnings fall on deaf ears, and it becomes increasingly clear that there's no one they can trust--except perhaps each other.

Strap in for a breakneck story that will have you up all night, hurtling toward the last page as the clock ticks and time runs out.

Rising Danger

Rising Danger
By Jerusha Agen

This K-9 team is running out of time...

The Twin Cities are in danger. Someone is threatening the areas dams and Phoenix K-9's newest team, Bristol Bachmann and her partner Toby, are being called upon to help thwart the attack. But things just got really complicated. Her ex-boyfriend is her DNR contact from getting into the dams and the bomber has her in his sights.

The weather has the rivers at a high level and the stability of the dams couldn't be more crucial. The bomber couldn't have picked a worse time to strike and he (or she) doesn't seem to care about the cost  these attacks will exact. People will die, structures will be destroyed, and the long-term impact is anyone's guess. As the investigation reaches a stalemate the bomber's taunting threats become even more personal. Can they stop him before he releases the river from its confinement?

Rising Danger is an excellent read and I can honestly say it made me want to get to know the rest of the women and dogs who make up of Phoenix K-9's. The book is well-paced and keeps the reader in suspense from beginning to end. And really it is almost impossible to go wrong with a book when you have a good-plotline and a dog involved. This is a clean reading Romantic Suspense and if you love Love Inspired Suspense you will want to add this book to your summer TBR list.

** Fun fact this book is a prequel for a new series starring Phoenix K-9's! **

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - All thoughts expressed are my own.

The Paris Betrayal ~ Review

The Paris Betrayal
By James R. Hannibal

In a word WOW!!!

If you are looking for a high-paced, time-is-running-out-to-save-the-world book you have found it with The Paris Betrayal.  Ben Calix is having a very bad day (make that week). He's a spy who has just had a mission go bad. And it just all goes downhill from there.

When his mission goes wrong, he discovers that his cover has been blown. And when the attacks keep coming he is more than a little surprised to find himself on the outside looking in. But Ben is more than his latest failed mission, he has come across a potential world-changing bioweapon. There is just one little problem - he has no one who will listen to his evidence. In this deadly game, he is caught up in, there is only one possible outcome, someone will die. Ben just hopes he can stay ahead long enough to save everyone from the mastermind behind it.

Having read James R, Hannibal's The Gryphon Heist and Chasing the White Lion I was looking forward to reading The Paris Betrayal. In no way was I disappointed. One is taken from one dangerous situation to another, never knowing who to trust. When a power-crazed individual finances the ultimate bioweapon and sets his focus on bringing down his foe, no one is going to stand in his way. If they do they will die. This is suspense at its best and The Paris Betrayal is not to be missed. In fact, I'd move to the top of your reading list.

PS If you love Dachshunds you have to read this book! Absolute must.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provided my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
After a rough mission in Rome involving the discovery of a devastating bioweapon, Company spy Ben Calix returns to Paris to find his perfectly ordered world has collapsed. A sniper attack. An ambush. A call for help that brings French SWAT forces down on his head. Ben is out. This is a severance--reserved for incompetents and traitors.

Searching for answers and anticipating a coming attack, Ben and a woman swept up in his misfortunes must travel across Europe to find the sniper who tried to kill him, the medic who saved his life, the schoolmaster who trained him, and an upstart hacker from his former team. More than that, Ben must come to grips with his own insignificance as the Company's plan to stop Leviathan from unleashing the bioweapon at any cost moves forward without him--and he struggles against the infection that is swiftly claiming territory within his own body.

Award-winning author James R. Hannibal ratchets up the tension on every page of this suspenseful new thriller.

Her Every Move ~ Review

Her Every Move
By Kelly Irvin

For more than a year Jackie Santoro has lived under the cloud of her father's crimes. Crimes that have moved Jackie to the top of the list of suspects when a bomber targets San Antonio and the very people who accused him.

Detective Avery Wick has a feeling about Jackie but he needs evidence not just a  gut feeling to remove her from the person of interest list.  Though she is on his personal person of interest list. Regardless, someone has San Antonio in their sights.

As the clock runs down on the bomber's demands Jackie isn't about to wait around doing nothing. She's going to do everything she can to help the police discover who has targeted her city, clear her name, and get justice for those whom the bomber stole from her.

What she doesn't know is just how close the bomber is to his ultimate goal...

Her Every Move is another page-turner, ripped-from-the-headlines, unputdownable read from Kelly Irvin.  Each new Romantic Suspense she releases is excellent reading. Yes, there are crimes but her work doesn't get into the gross-me-out graphic descriptions that some authors offer in abundance. (Which, I might add, I appreciate as I steer away from graphic anything.)

The cover teaser "The Clock Is Ticking And He's Closing In" is the perfect summary of this book. And throughout it does seem as if the bomber is targeting Jackie or she is in fact the perfect devious mind while carrying out revenge on the city and those who tried and convicted her father in the court of public opinion.

If you are unfamiliar with Kelly Irwin's Contemporary Suspense you should give this book a try as it complete in and of itself. If you are familiar with her work you won't be disappointed in this newest addition to her bookshelf .

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I offer my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

He’s a cop trying to stop a serial bomber.

And she’ll stop at nothing to clear her own name.

When a deadly bomb goes off during a climate change debate, librarian and event coordinator Jackie Santoro becomes the prime suspect. Her motive, according to Detective Avery Wick: to avenge the suicide of her prominent father, who was accused of crimes by a city councilman attending the event.

Though Avery has doubts about Jackie’s guilt, he can’t exonerate her even after an extremist group takes responsibility for the bombing and continues to attack San Antonio’s treasured public spaces.

As Jackie tries to hold her shattered family together, she has no choice but to proceed with plans for the Caterina Ball, the library system’s biggest annual fundraiser. But she also fears the event provides the perfect opportunity for the bomber to strike again.

Despite their mistrust, Jackie and Avery join forces to unmask the truth—before the death toll mounts even higher.

Bestseller Kelly Irvin is back with a nail-biting romantic suspense where nothing is certain until the very last page.

These Nameless Things ~ Review

These Nameless Things
By Shawn Smucker

Dan is waiting for the brother he left behind. Adam went back while he and the others escaped the torture and captivity that they had existed in on the mountain. Now those that have not continued on, live in the shadow of the mountain. Life is simple and uncluttered but their memories of before are just not there.

But everything is about to change when a stranger stumbles out of the edges of the mountain. Memories start to awaken among the survivors and Dan is troubled with what he knows and what he is remembering. But Dan isn't the only one who has started to remember and the memories all seem to have a person in common.

These Nameless Things is a book that makes you stop and take notice. There is an underlying spiritual thread throughout that the reader follows to the end. I had suspicions as to where this was headed but that in no way detracted from the reading experience.

This is the fourth book I've read by Shawn Smucker and I have yet to be disappointed in what he has put forth. All his books have been in the Speculative Fiction genre and well worth reading. This one focuses on guilt and forgiveness. What will one do to protect the ones one loves? And what of the consequences? These are matters most people will face, These Nameless Things presented all of these in a way that captured and held this reader's attention from the first page until the end.

If you like Ted Dekker or James L. Rubart you will most likely enjoy These Nameless Things.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

About the Book:
Dan escaped captivity from the mountain long ago but believes his brother is still there and waits, each day in a nearby town, for his escape. What Dan doesn't realize is that the rest of the townspeople are also waiting--but for reasons he never imagined.
Before Dan opened his door to find a wounded woman who had escaped from the tormentors in the mountain, his life had become rather quiet. He and the eight other people in the mostly abandoned town had become friends. They spent peaceful evenings around the campfire and even made vague plans to journey east one day and leave the ominous mountain behind.
But the woman's arrival changes everything.
Who is she? How does she know so much about Dan's brother, who is still held captive in the mountain? Why are long-forgotten memories rising to the surface? And why does Dan feel so compelled to keep her presence in his house a secret?

Visionary writer Shawn Smucker is back with an unsettling story that invites us to consider two challenging questions: To what lengths will we go to assuage our own guilt? and Is there a limit to the things we will do for the people we love?
