Cover Reveal ~ Chase the Legend

Today I'm taking part in the cover reveal of
Hannah Kaye's Chase the Legend, a retelling of Moby Dick.
This is the seventh book in the A Classic Retold series
and will be released on October 27th.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Blurb:

The End of the Map lies far behind you now. Here there be dragons.
The nation of Outer Melvia runs on the power of dragon oil, but only the Hunters of Map’s End are fearless–or foolish–enough to pursue the great beasts of the deep.
In the wake of a broken engagement, Ilsa Starling boards the Hunting vessel Relentless in search of the solace the sea promises her.
But dragons are not the only threats that lurk in these uncharted waters. As first mate aboard Relentless, Ilsa becomes a key player in the impossible quest determined by her captain, Adam Chase. Once Map’s End’s rising star, Chase lost everything to an ill-fated encounter with a legendary white dragon that haunts the seas at the very edge of the world. Now the captain swears to avenge himself on the beast and restore all that was stolen from him, no matter what–or who–he may lose along the way.
In this gaslamp fantasy reimagining of Moby Dick, Hannah Kaye spins a tale of hurt and healing, breathing hope into Herman Melville’s timeless tragedy.

Today I'm taking part in the cover reveal of Tor Thibeaux's Summon the Light, a retelling of The Tempest. This is the sixth book in the A Classic Retold series and will be released on October 20th.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Blurb:

Everything he ever loved is gone. Can what is broken ever be restored?

In a quiet, seaside town, Nick works as a smuggler, disguising himself as a human and hiding his secret past as the servant of the magician Prospero. It’s been two years since the attack that devastated the great magician’s island leaving it dark and ruined. Prospero and his beautiful daughter, Miranda, are dead, and even Nick’s best friend, the spirit Ariel, has slipped into a coma. Nothing is left.

Nick has resolved himself to mere survival when a voice from the past suddenly begins to call to him, urging him to rebuild the magic island’s ruined chapel. No matter how futile the task, Nick cannot ignore the haunting call to restore the heart of the island.

But hope is not the only thing awakening. Darkness is stirring as well—darkness that understands the meaning of Nick’s task better than he does.

As Nick begins his work, he is stalked on land and sea—by enemies human and inhuman—all of them prepared to do whatever is necessary to keep him from summoning the light.

Tor Thibeaux re-imagines Shakespeare’s The Tempest in an epic story of good and evil in a high-stakes fantasy adventure.

Cherishing the Cowgirl ~ Review

Cherishing the Cowgirl
Colorado Cowgirls #2
By Jody Hedlund

In Committing to the Cowgirl, we were introduced to the Courtney sisters. Having come to Colorado in search of a better life, Charity is faced with the truth they may lose the house they inherited from their uncle. With few options, Charity may be forced to accept a marriage of convenience to provide a home for herself and her younger sisters, Patience and Felicity. But when she saves Hudson Vanderwater's life, she may have very well changed her future.

Hudson Vanderwater is determined to connect the East and the West with another railroad line. His ideas aren't well met in Fairplay, whose ranchers need a North/South route for their cattle. And until Charity rescued him from a dangerous situation, no one would have ever expected him to be anything other than a cold-hearted, financially motivated rich guy. But there is another side to him, one that wants to offer help to young women in need. And his plan to help Charity involves a bit of high-handedness, but ultimately results in his renting her boardinghouse and employing her for an entire month.

Charity is left with little choice in the matter, but she quickly regrets her agreement. But there is a small part of her that hopes he is the answer to her long-held wishes that she could have a fairytale come true.

Cherishing the Cowgirl is the second book in the Colorado Cowgirls series, but it can be read and enjoyed on its own. It is interesting contrasting Charity and Hudson's different expectations in life. Charity hopes for love, while Hudson expects a business arrangement. Hudson expects everything he wants to be his, while Charity expects nothing. Can two people from such different worlds hope for something more? Or will it be doomed from the start?

Naturally, with books from Jody Hedlund, one expects romance, but this time, there is also an undercurrent of mystery involved. Someone may be taking advantage of the Courtney sister's situation. But who? And is it intentional or accidental? And even more worrisome, is it dangerous? But how is Charity to determine the truth when she can find no evidence of anything?

Another winner from Jody Hedlund for anyone who loves historical romance!

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
Charity Courtney is at her wit’s end trying to save her boardinghouse from a bank foreclosure. Short of money but not short of marriage proposals, she dreads putting aside her fairy tale dreams of love and having to settle for a marriage of convenience. But with the need to provide for her two younger sisters, she doesn’t have any other options.

While visiting Fairplay, wealthy railroad magnet Hudson Vanderwater hears of Charity’s plight. Although he comes across as cold and calloused, he is drawn to helping women in need because of a tragedy that destroyed his sister. He concocts a plan that will save Charity—he’ll employ her and rent her boardinghouse for the month and in doing so alleviate her debt.

With a grumpy and demanding new boarder who is now her boss, Charity determines to hold the handsome Hudson at arm’s length. But she’s the sunshine for his stormy soul, and he can’t resist being drawn to her. As danger closes in and threatens to destroy Charity, he’ll stop at nothing to save her.

Unseen Danger ~ Review

Unseen Danger
Elite Guardians #3
By Jerusha Agen

Nevaeh Williams's past and present are about to collide with the newest client that Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency has taken on. Dealing with her recurring PSTD while providing security for D-Chop leaves her wondering how long she can keep the rest of her team and Phoenix in the dark and how long she can keep her attacks from affecting her work.

Branson Aaberg has been heading up D-Chop's security for a while, but the threats have become more personal and closer to D-Chop. When Nevaeh catches D-Chop's eye after an incident with equipment, Phoenix K-9 gets a call to help beef up security. Not only did Nevaeh catch D-Chop's eye, but she also caught Branson's with her quick thinking under pressure and her almost hostile attitude toward him.

Nevaeh's nightmares have come back. But what's real, and what is paranoia? Are her feelings of being watched just a symptom of her PSTD or some of D-Chop's overzealous fans?

This is a fast-paced read that draws one in from the opening scene. It is interesting to finally get Nevaeh's backstory. Also, getting a small glimpse into her friendship with coworker Jazz provided an intriguing hint at Jazz and Nevaeh's pre-Phoenix friendship.

Overall this was a very good read that dealt with several important issues facing many people. Staying true to your beliefs and the undermining power of fear. How many allow fear to control their lives? How does one recognize such damaging control? Unseen Danger is an excellent addition to the Elite Guardians series. I will say one could read this as a standalone title without reading the previous books, but it will read better after reading the series in order. Highly recommended; this would also make an excellent book club selection. And I have to say it, I love the dogs!

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

This woman and her K-9 protect others.
Now who will protect them?

After a brutal attack, it took Nevaeh Williams six years to rebuild her life. Now a security specialist at the Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency, she faces danger nearly every day. But when an old friend is targeted, her fragile stability begins to crumble.

Celebrity bodyguard Branson Aaberg could lose more than his career if he fails to end the mysterious threat against his client. Soon he’s more concerned with rescuing the tough but vulnerable woman who joins his security team.

Nevaeh is there to protect her friend, but what if she needs protection? What if the feeling she’s being watched isn’t the result of her traumatized imagination? If the danger is real, Nevaeh's only hope for survival may be the God powerful enough to defeat her worst enemy—the one she doesn't see before it's too late.

Unseen Danger continues the thrilling story of the elite Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency that began with Hidden Danger (Guardians Unleashed, #1). (Each book can stand alone or be read as series installments.)
