A Lavender Tides Novel #3
By Colleen Coble
Her marriage was a sham and her "husband" wants her to keep the truth of it secret. What neither of them realized was that his attempt to keep her quiet could be the very thing saves her life. Bailey Flemming has never lived in any one place for long - her mother was always moving them from one place to another. And more than anything Bailey's longed for family - siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, even the name of her father would have been something. Her mother has been murdered and someone is now targetting her.
Fleeing to Lavender Tides, Washington, and leaving Rock Habor, Michigan seems her only chance. But the rundown cabin she's about to call home comes with a past that puts her directly in the FBI's sights and especially that of agent Lance Phoenix.
The cabin that Bailey has moved into has ties linked to Lance's sister's disappearance 5 years ago - a disappearance linked to a human trafficking ring. Could this woman with the most striking green eyes he's ever seen have something to do with Ava's disappearance? Presenting himself as a helpful neighbor Lance offers to help Bailey repair her cabin while keeping her under surveillance and checking her cabin and property for evidence.
Meanwhile, Shauna and her recently found brother Grayson (read The House at Saltwater Point) are searching for their sister Brenna, who was stolen at birth. But with 24 years of separation and no memories of them how will they convince her that they are the siblings she never knew she had? But first, they must locate her.
Secrets at Cedar Creek has a few twists and turns that, having read the previous books in the series, I never saw coming. When a book literally keeps the identity of the criminal mastermind so well hidden it is pure suspense. And the future several of the characters are in serious peril so one is kept reading with the unfulfilled self-promise of "just one more chapter" - nope it will never happen because seriously who could go to sleep while the characters are in such extreme peril?
Now I would recommend reading the previous books in the series first just to get all the back story but you could still fully enjoy this book if you read it as a standalone. The characters are engaging and their individual stories are compelling. Colleen Coble has again brought to life a community one could easily step into - though the criminal aspect might make it a place to just visit and not call home.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher through TLC Book Tours with no expectation but that I offer my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own.
