Hangin' by a Moment
Hangin' by a Moment
Deep Haven Collection #5
By Andrea Christenson
and presented by Susan May Warren

Jack Stewart can't go back to his old life. He made a mistake and it cost him a year of his life and now is his time to start over. Thanks to an old friend his opportunity lies in Deep Haven, Minnesota. Boone Buckam is convinced that Jack is the right person for Deep Haven's Crisis Response Team. But Jack's past stands in the way of anything that involves helicopters. But Boone doesn't easily take no for an answer.

Colleen Dekker has mandatory time off due to an incident at the ER she worked out. So she finds herself with free time on her hands so a trip home to Deep Haven is her only option. Returning home is kind of like admitting defeat in Colleen's eyes, returning to the reminders of teenage mistakes. When her BFF Ella approaches her about an opportunity with the new Crisis Response Team, Colleen's just not sure that a permanent move is in her best interests.

Hangin' by a Moment is the fifth book in the Deep Haven Collection and it is best when read with the rest of the books in the series (in order). But this book can be read as a standalone. As with most books of a similar genre you are certain to get a satisfactory conclusion but you know the path from point a to point b isn't easy but so worth it in the end. Can these wounded people find healing together? Only time will tell. So pick up your copy of this Contemporary Romance for a  weekend escape to Minnesota and a visit with some friends you will want to hang out with.

Overall a pleasant and enjoyable read in my opinion and one you can't go wrong with. The characters will spark empathy as you connect with them and their personal turmoils.  Another winner in this collection.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

But when Boone Buckam—the guy he owes for getting him out of the slammer—asks for help, how can he refuse?

Colleen Decker has already escaped evil once—as a teenager, she was kidnapped by a murderer. But she’s put all that behind her as a trauma nurse in Minneapolis. Or maybe not, because a freak mistake in the ER sends her past crashing down on her. She needs a timeout in her hometown of Deep Haven. She doesn’t plan to stay—even when she’s roped into the job of flight nurse for the town’s Crisis Response Team chopper. Colleen’s not sure why she’s drawn to danger, but she’ll be safe enough—after all, she’ll need training, and her teacher is a handsome former pararescue jumper. What could go wrong?

When Jack said he didn’t want to get involved, he especially meant his heart—but being with Colleen feels like a fresh start. He’ll even climb aboard a chopper again, despite his vows.  They’re headed for a happy ending…

But secrets never stay buried in a small town. And when disaster strikes one snowy night, they’ll both have to decide if the past will destroy them…or if it just might lead them home.

Under the Bayou Moon ~ Review

Under the Bayou Moon
Valerie Fraser Luesse

Ellie Fields is determined to serve wherever she is most needed and use the gifts God has given her to make the world a better place, especially for children. So when she is offered a teaching position in Bernadette, Louisiana, she takes the opportunity to leave the familiar life behind.

But the life of a school teacher in a Cajun community in 1949 Louisana isn't easy. French-speaking has been forbidden, in fact, it is to be driven out of the children by any means necessary. Fortunately, for the people who call Bernadette home, Ellie Fields isn't of a like mind, though she knows learning English is necessary for their futures.

But Ellie's greatest understanding comes when she meets Raphe Broussard, a Cajun fisherman who has called the Bayou home all his life. A life that at times is as harsh as the Bayou is beautiful. Raphe's concern for the young nephew he is raising brings him to Ellie's classroom where his concerns are soon laid to rest.

But soon the Bayou and Bernadette are facing an enemy they didn't know existed - one that if not stopped that could destroy everything that they hold dear.

Valerie Fraser Luesse's newest work is a standalone title and is excellent reading.. Her realistic descriptions of the beauties of the Bayou make me miss the similar landscape that I called home when I lived in Florida. The moss draping from the trees and swaying to the breezes off the water. The quiet of nature is so alive during the night. But the prejudices against the Cajun people at this time in history is just something one doesn't hear about in the history books. Truly the land of freedom when speaking a language is not only forbidden but punished!

Under the Bayou Moon, like the other works by Valerie Fraser Luesse that I have had the pleasure to read are books that entertain while sharing glimpses into the past. Her characters are more than words upon a page they have a life that speaks to you, one is drawn into the story, roots for the characters to triumph over the evil that is confronting them.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
Restless with the familiarity of her Alabama home, Ellie Fields accepts a teaching job in a tiny Louisiana town deep in bayou country. Though rightfully suspicious of outsiders, who have threatened both their language and their culture, most of the people in tiny Bernadette, Louisiana, come to appreciate the young and idealistic schoolteacher as a boon to the town. She's soon teaching just about everyone--and coming up against opposition from both the school board and a politician with ulterior motives.

Acclimating to a whole new world, Ellie meets a lonely but intriguing Cajun fisherman named Raphe who introduces her to the legendary white alligator that haunts these waters. Raphe and Ellie have barely found their way to each other when a huge bounty is offered for the elusive gator, bringing about a shocking turn of events that will test their love and their will to right a terrible wrong.

A master of the Southern novel, Valerie Fraser Luesse invites you to enter the sultry swamps of Louisiana in a story that illuminates the struggle for the heart and soul of the bayou.

The Goblin and the Dancer ~ Review w/Giveaway

The Goblin and the Dancer:
A Retelling of the Steadfast Tin Soldier
A Villains Ever After #5
By Allison Tebo

Roseanna lives aboveground in the Elvish world where she performs at the Metropolitan Dance Hall as in Grik's estimation the most gifted and talented of dancers. Rosanna has unknowingly captured Grik's love and devotion but as a Goblin he never expects her to return his feelings. He has hopes and dreams that her exceptional kindness could be something more but she is a dancer and he is but a mere janitor.

When an injured soldier, Paul, seeks to win Roseanna's affection a set of events is set into motion because of jealousy that lands all three in a whole heap of trouble. As Grik, Paul and Roseanna face various obstacles and dangers that threaten their very lives they are all given a unique opportunity to get to know one another.

This is a most enjoyable read that takes a unique twist on a fairy tale making it something new and unexpected. Sometimes it takes the unexpected to allow us to see beyond the exterior to what lies in the heart. One's worth should never be tied to one's looks, skills, or wealth. And sometimes appreciation if not friendship can be found in shared challenges.

The Goblin and the Dancer is one of twelve books in the Villains Ever After series in which we see the villain of various fairy tales from their point-of-view. This book is a retelling of The Steadfast Tin Soldier.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

Grik the goblin spends his days as a janitor cleaning the Metropolitan Dance Hall, drawn to the Elvish world and tired of the darkness of his underground home. He secretly pines for the ballet company’s lead dancer, Rosanna, but his own ugliness and shyness stand in the way of confessing his love.

When a handsome soldier named Paul appears on the scene to make a bid for Rosanna's affections, Grik’s jealousy bubbles over and he commits the unthinkable, plunging the threesome into a river and down into the depths of the earth.

Determined to redeem himself, Grik leads Rosanna and Paul through the place he calls home: but even a goblin can’t be prepared for everything that is found underground. Trapped in the dark, nightmares, both within and without, rise to the surface, threatening to destroy them all.

A magical and heartfelt retelling of The Steadfast Tin Soldier about finding your worth.

Aspen Crossroads ~ Review with Giveaway

Aspen Crossroads JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Aspen Crossroads by Janine Rosche,

Aspen Crossroads

Aspen Crossroads
A Whisper Canyon Romance #1
By Janine Rosche

Haven Haviland made a mistake and now she's living with the consequences of it. Unfortunately, Whisper Canyon is not a forgiving place and due to the sins of her late mother, they aren't about to forgive or forget the rumors that are circulating. But Haven needs to find a job soon and the closer to home the better.

Jace Daring promised his late mother that he would never return to Whisper Canyon. But when the company he works for decides this small community is perfect for their newest project. There's just one problem - Mayor Trent Garrison.

Trent Garrison has a hold on Whisper Canyon that he isn't about to let go of. Worse he has the power as mayor to destroy any and all who get in his way and Aspen Crossroads is in his sights.

This is a book that deals with several sensitive/delicate issues that have a direct bearing on the characters, their past, their present, and their future. A few of the characters are victims of sex trafficking and are being offered a chance to reclaim the life they may have had if they had been given the chance. But second chances are not easy, especially when dealing with real people with their prejudices, fears, and preconceived notions. The various aspects are handled delicately offering the reader a chance to get to know the women behind the abuse as people.

Aspen Crossroads is a well-written book that will keep the reader's attention as you root for the success of the restaurant and its employees. I would recommend this book that was my introduction to the author and her work. There are no graphic scenes to give readers pause though the various characters do discuss their pasts in a limited fashion.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

But that doesn’t stop the rumors about the multiple women who live with him. He must protect the truth–that his farm-to-table restaurant will provide new livelihoods for women rescued from human trafficking–or he risks the safety and futures of those relying on him. The Heart's Charge ~ Review

The Heart's Charge
Hanger's Horseman #2
By Karen Witemeyer

As members of Hanger's Horsemen, Mark Wallace and Jonah Brooks have a legendary quality. Unfortunately many can't see past the legend to the heart and soul of the men behind it. But when a newborn baby needs immediate transport to a foundling home Mark and Jonah find themselves in the right place at the right time. And when Mark is reunited with his first love he doesn't know whether this is a good thing or not.

Katherine Palmer left society and her ruined reputation behind when she moved to Texas to start a home for foundlings. She knew she would never marry not after the mistake that she made but she could still do some good for those innocents who needed the care and love she could offer them. But when the man whose heart she rejected turns up with a child in need she is given a second chance.

But there is more than a foundling home and a lost love to keep Mark and Jonah in Llano County, Texas when they hear rumors of kiddy-nappers. When someone is in need Hanger's Horsemen aren't about to turn a blind eye to the situation.

The Heart's Charge is the second book in the Hanger's Horsemen series and like the first follows the life of soldiers who are seeking to do good after witnessing and taking part in war's atrocities. This book focuses on Mark and Jonah and their bonds of friendship and brotherhood. It was interesting to see how they interacted with Kate and Eliza and how these interactions changed as the four had to work together for the good of the children they were drawn to help.

This book is a historical romance with definite elements of mystery. It is a well-written book that has excellent pacing and attention to detail without being wordy. The characters are dimensional and relatable so one cares about them and what they are going through. Would make a great book club selection.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion ~ All thoughts expressed are my own

About the Book:

Members of Hanger's Horsemen, Mark Wallace and Jonah Brooks arrive in Llano County, Texas, to deliver a steed, never expecting they'd deliver a baby as well. Left with an infant to care for, they head to a nearby foundling home, where Mark encounters the woman he'd nearly married a decade ago.

After failing at love, Katherine Palmer dedicated her life to caring for children, teaming up with Eliza Southerland to start Harmony House. From mixed ancestry, illegitimate, and female, Eliza understands the pain of not fitting society's mold. Yet those are the very attributes that lead her to minister to outcast children. The taciturn Jonah intrigues her with his courage and kindness, but there are secrets behind his eyes--ghosts from wars past and others still being waged.

However, when a handful of urchin children from the area go missing, a pair of Horsemen are exactly what the women need. Working together to find the children, will these two couples find love as well?

Hours to Kill ~ Review

Hours to Kill
Homeland Heroes #3
By Susan Sleeman

Addy (Addison) Leigh has a lead that could be just what she needs to break the case that has stymied her. But just as she gets her big break she is involved in an accident that causes memory loss. With the lead that she thought so promising gone she needs the help of her estranged husband Mack Jordan and the federal team that she used to work with. Now she just needs to remember them...

When Mack gets to Addy's side he is more than a little dismayed that she has no recollection of him or their marriage. What's worse he knows that it is his fault that she is now in this position - having bailed on their marriage after a dangerous PTSD incident he had no other choice.  But his choice drove Addy from Washington, D.C. to Oregon and into the sights of the unknown assailant who wants her dead.

But Addy's investigation showed an imminent threat that needed to be stopped before there were thousands of casualties. But the deeper RED Team, Addy, and Mack dig for information the greater the danger and the evil that they face.  Their search for answers will lead them to the darkest regions of the net and it won't be pretty.

Hours to Kill is the third book in the Homeland Heroes series and it is as intense and thrilling as the first two books in the series (Seconds to Live and Minutes to Die). This time the story focuses on RED Team member Mack Jordan and his wife Addy Leigh and the backstory that was hinted at in the two previous books in the series. This book is perfect for a long weekend or an all-night reading event. The suspense keeps one turning the pages and what is thought to be known has a few twists thrown in to keep the reader guessing as to the final outcome.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations all thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

You Again ~ Review

You Again
By Amanda Waters

Rosalee McDonnell is stuck in rut and she is feeling older than her 62 years, 6 of which she's lived as a widow. Her husband, Tommy had been there for her when she most needed him just as she had been for him through his last days as cancer took him.

But Tommy McDonnell wasn't her first love. Her first love was in 1973, as a 17 year-old-girl, Rosalee fell in love with George Barnes. But when he broke her heart she never saw him again, nor did she expect to. But a last-minute invitation leads to a surprise meeting and a second chance at love.

You Again is told in both the present and through Rosalee's remembrances of the past. The first couple chapters seemed slow but as the story progressed so to did the pacing. It is interesting to compare past George and Rosalee to their present selves.  Overall I'd say this was a pretty good book.  If you are looking for something new that is a standalone read and falls into the gentle, clean (a few kisses) read category you will want to give this one a try.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
You Again is a sweet love story starring Rosalee McDonnell, a 62-year-old widow who unexpectedly reconnects with George Barnes, her first love, the man who broke her heart at 17, and someone she thought she'd never see again. In alternating chapters, Rosalee also recalls the summer of 1973 when she and George met and fell in love. You Again is a story of first love and second chances, of resilience, family, friendship, and living a full life.

For fans of Kristan Higgins and Katherine Reay.
