The Duke's Bargain ~ Review

The Duke's Bargain
A Proper Romance
By Megan Walker

Miss Georgiana Wood has lived as a recluse after a major social misstep—one that has ruined her reputation. But when the Duke of Marlow comes to recover a ring that his cousin lost in a game of chance, Georgiana has a chance to reclaim the position that she lost. She requests three outings in exchange for returning the ring.

But when her brother is called away for an emergency, everything is upended, and Georgiana and Marlow find themselves together more than they expected. For Marlow what had been an unwanted way to reclaim what was his always him to rediscover who he is beneath the title. But he has a duty and Georgiana is a complication to the plans he has made. And happiness, his happiness was never part of it.
This was a lovely read. I loved how Marlow's family helped him and exasperate him and how Georgiana allowed him to see them for who they were and that life was not just a set of rules and expectations. Does their bargain go as planned? Not at all. But a planned life is not necessarily the best life. If I had to describe this book in just a couple of words, I would say sweet and complicated.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:
One Season.
One Bargain.
One last chance at love.

Eight months after a stolen kiss ruined her reputation, Miss Georgiana Wood is a recluse, cast out of Society without any hope of ever finding a suitable match. Longing for redemption, she never expects her salvation to arrive in the form of a handsome, temperamental duke.

After a failed bargain left the Duke of Marlow without a promised wife and heir, he must face courtship a final time. He plans to entice his future bride with a priceless family heirloom—one now in the possession of Miss Wood, who agrees to return it if he takes her on three outings in London during the Season to restore her reputation.

As the pair navigate Society’s expectations and whispered gossip, Marlow soon sees a new side to Georgiana—an ally and friend. Her wit and courage, grace and allure far exceed that of the eligible ladies he intended to court, and soon, he’d do almost anything to secure her happiness.

As Marlow wrestles with duty and desire, Georgiana begins to hope that she could be loved not despite her past, but because of who she truly is. When hearts are tested, truth and secrets revealed, will love be enough to risk it all?

Hannah and the Nightingale ~ Review

Hannah and the Nightingale
Once in a Wood #4
By Sienna Peake

This was a delightful nod to Hans Christian Anderson's The Nightingale. In this Regency retelling we meet Hannah Bell the eldest daughter of the vicar who has a special talent with a violin. Her musical gift charms the Duke of Arlington and his son Rupert. In keeping with the original tale, Hannah is replaced in the Duke's estimation by a young lady of the peerage.

I loved how various aspects from the original were reworked into a new enchanting tale. Hannah is kind and giving often to her own detriment. I loved how Rupert saw Hannah and her true worth even when expectations were on him making a better "social" match.

This is the fourth release in the Once in a Wood series but is able to be read and enjoyed without reading the previous stories as this a standalone story complete in this one volume. This is a feel-good story that, while short, will leave you with a smile and a lighter heart.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations, but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expresses are my own.

About the Book:

He's the son of a duke.
She's the daughter of a vicar.
Will the power of song bring them together?

Hannah Bell is overwhelmed. Her mother passed away two years ago, and her father is constantly busy with his duties as a vicar, leaving her to manage the household and her five younger siblings. Playing the violin is one of her few sources of solace. When two unexpected visitors arrive in the forest, Hannah's life begins to change. Will her music lead her to a brighter future? Will she have the strength to grasp it?

Rupert de Lacy is the only son of the Duke of Arlington, and he knows he must never forget it. His father expects him to be the perfect model of stiff, stern propriety, but Rupert's heart is set on fairy tales and long walks in the woods. When he stumbles upon a new friend at the edge of the forest, he feels safe to be himself for the very first time. But will he have the courage to move forward, even against his father's wishes?

Hannah and the Nightingale is a sweet, clean Regency romance inspired by the fairy tale The Nightingale. It is the fourth book in the Regency fairy tale retellings series Once in a Wood. Each book is a stand alone work, and the stories can be enjoyed in any order.

An Unforeseen Attachment ~ Release Day and a Review

~ It's Release Day ~
An Unforeseen Attachment
Hearts of Somerset #6
By Miranda D. Nelson

I really enjoyed reading this newest offering from Miranda Nelson.
An Unforeseen Attachment had some fun moments, like an attack mallard named Lord Duckworth, which led to a most unconventional meeting between main characters Simon Wayford and Julianna Bartlett. Let's just say a book and Simon get damaged in the encounter.

Simon is in Bath pursuing Miss Fairfax. Unfortunately, Miss Fairfax has not given him any encouragement in that department. But Simon is determined to win her hand. His Granny Bea is equally determined to see her grandson happy and married.

Julianna is a widow of two years with a six-year-old daughter. She has no choice but to live with her parents. Her mother is bent on controlling her granddaughter's upbringing and finding Julianna a new husband.

With a dog named Charles Bingley, a matchmaking Granny, and a mother with an iron thumb, you know something will happen when Simon and Julianna get a chance to know one another. This was a cute Regency read with clean romance (AAA+ in my book).

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book, with no expectations, but to provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

Simon Wayford has one objective in mind when he travels to Bath–gain the affection of the woman he’s chased for months. When his efforts prove fruitless, Simon only agrees to stay at his grandmother’s request, anticipating an uneventful summer. What he does not expect is a young widow and her daughter to capture so much of his attention or his heart.

Julianna Bartlett never thought she would be living under her mother’s thumb once more. But after the passing of her husband, she and her daughter have little choice. While her mother is pushing for another marriage, Julianna is certain a loveless match will do nothing to repair what’s been broken.

Between a chance encounter and a meddlesome grandmother, two injured hearts might just find unexpected love.

The Rules of Matrimony ~ Review

The Rules of Matrimony
Matchmaking Mamas #4
By Anneka R. Walker
Narrated by Mary Jane Wells and James Joseph

This is the fourth book in the Matchmaking Mamas series, which features a group of young people determined to escape the bonds of marriage and the matches their mothers are trying to arrange for them. Ian is the final Rebel to fall to the machinations of their schemes. But Ian's time has run out, and his father has gotten involved. If he wants to have a say in who he marries, he needs to act fast.

Miss Amie Tyler and her mother have been living on the charity of family and have endured the remarks of others who look down on their status. But when Amie's mother makes an outrageous claim about Lord Reynolds, Amie's name is linked to that of Ian's. Ian, being Ian, is determined to extricate his name from this engagement.

But upon meeting Amie, Ian devises a plan to thwart his father's schemes and offer Amie protection and the freedom to live her life as she sees fit. However, there are rules involved, rules that would prevent the two of them from falling in love. Time for the Matchmaking Mamas to get to work!

This was another lovely read from Anneka R. Walker. We finally learn why Ian has been so against getting married. There are long-held secrets. And at the center of everything is family and friendship. I love how the Rebels take action and are convinced that their friend needs to discover love for himself. But with Ian's rules firmly in place, or are they, can Amie and Ian ever hope for something better? This was a clean read and can be enjoyed as a standalone book.

I also experienced this book as an audiobook, and the narration by Mary Jane Wells and James Joseph was excellent. I loved how "Amie" could enthuse over some of the situations that she found herself in. The book really came to life in the telling, and at nine and a quarter hours, it is an excellent length.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Ian has vowed never to marry, steadfast in his resolve to shield himself from the heartache his father’s infidelity brought upon his mother. Instead, he dedicates his heart and soul to reforming criminal law with his Rebel group. A chance encounter in a country graveyard with the infuriatingly bold Miss Amie Tyler only solidifies his resolve to remain single.
