Ribbons of Death ~ Book Blitz

About the Book:
Title: Ribbons of Death
Author: Edita A. Petrick
Publisher: Solstice Publishing
Pages: 371
Genre: Suspense Thriller
Format: Paperback/Kindle

The ancients believed that once in a Blue Moon a child with Peacetaker powers is born. Such child, when grown to maturity, can seed murderous madness in people’s minds by merely walking amongst them. A simple amulet activates the Peacetaker’s powers. When a horribly scarred man knocks on the door of Stella Hunter’s ramshackle cottage in upstate Montana, she lets him in. What’s there to lose? The book critics killed her chances to warn the world about myths and legends behind the myths and legends.

But once the man pushes a book smudged with bloody fingerprints across the table, Stella sees a glimmer of hope. She may re-establish her credibility within the scientific
community and vindicate her ‘peace-taker’ theory. She may also be murdered by anyone standing next to her if her theory is correct because the ancient curse is anything but extinct. In fact, the ancient curse has a new attitude....

Ribbons of Death is available at Amazon.

About the Author:

By profession, I’m an engineer and ten years ago, I left a corporate job to concentrate
on writing. It was perhaps the scariest thing I’ve done. Of course, there were other
considerations at the time, life, kids, economy and my mother who was battling cancer. I
wrote as means of staying grounded because I had to hold it together. There was no one
else to pitch in. There wasn’t a single moment that I didn’t have doubts about whether
what I was doing was the right thing or not, but doubts come and go, while the need
to write goes on forever. Since 2005 I’ve published 5 books and this year alone I have
6 new ones coming out. I live in Toronto with my family and our two pets – wheaten
terriers. And whenever I’m tempted to look back, and start second-guessing my past
decisions, I sit behind the computer and start another book. At least for me, that’s a cure-
all.

The Iron Ring ~ Review

The Iron Ring
Part I of the Saga of the Redeemed
By Auston Habershaw

Tyvian Reldamar has just been betrayed and is about to be seized, forced to answer for his crimes.  But Tyvian isn't about to just give up.  But his escape from the authorities comes with a cost.

The cost - an iron ring that cannot be removed.  A ring that compels him to forego his usual deeds of evil.  But Tyvian isn't about to let a ring keep him from extracting revenge on the man who betrayed him.

Adding to his troubles Tyvian is being tracked by a Mage-Defender and Myreon Alafarr refuses to stop until she brings Tyvian to justice.

But Tyvian is determined that nothing will stop him, but he doesn't realize that his quest for revenge is about to lead him into even greater danger.  A warlord who was defeated years ago is making plans to reclaim that which he lost and Tyvian and those with him are entering the heart of danger.  A danger which may very well take them all.

Tyvian is a character of contrasts - intent on breaking the law and yet with moments of empathy for those around him.  Myreon is a woman on a mission and it will be interesting to see how her character evolves in the next book (which I look forward to reading).

The first part of the book sets the stage through world building and character introduction.  When we arrive at the meat of the story the action and excitement build leaving one in anticipation of book two which is due out in June 2015.

I was provided a 3 day loan of this book in exchange for my review and tour participation.

About the Book:
Tyvian Reldamar—criminal mastermind, rogue mage, and smuggler of sorcerous goods—has just been betrayed by his longtime partner and left for dead in a freezing river. To add insult to injury, his mysterious rescuer took it upon himself to affix Tyvian with an iron ring that prevents the wearer from any evildoing.

Revenge just got complicated.

On his quest to get even, Tyvian navigates dark international conspiracies, dodges midnight assassins, and uncovers the plans of the ruthless warlord Banric Sahand—all while running from a Mage-Defender determined to lock him up. Tyvian will need to use every dirty trick in the book to avoid a painful and ignominious end, even as he discovers that sometimes even the world's most devious man needs a shoulder to lean on.

Colorado Hope ~ Review with Excerpt

Colorado Hope
Front Range Series 2
By Charlene Whitman

Grace Cunningham and her husband Monty are headed to Fort Collins, Colorado, and a new life.  But in an instant everything they had planned and dream was lost.  Monty was caught in a sudden river flood and swept away along with all of their possessions.

Relying on the kindness of strangers Grace hopes and prays for Monty's safe return.  But Grace's hopes may all be for naught when a man who looks and sounds like Monty comes to Fort Collins. But this Monty doesn't know Grace and he is married to another woman.

Grace is determined to keep her hope for the future and for her son.  But how can she build a future with a husband who doesn't know her or the child they had eagerly anticipated?  With a few new friends who believe her story, Grace manages to keep a flame of hope that someday she may indeed truly have her husband back if only Monty can remember.

Monty is a man with no past.  He just can't remember anything before waking up on a muddy bank. The woman to whom he is married is a frustration to him.  She isn't what he could see himself being drawn to in his forgotten past, but his vows and promises mean everything to him.  But there is something about the dressmaker in Fort Collins that tugs at the hidden recesses of his memories, if only he could figure out why.

A seemingly impossible situation that can only end in heart-break, surprisingly and believably has a satisfying and happy ending that you won't want to miss.  Alone the way there are gossipy women, a gang of outlaws, and one woman who holds the key.

If you've seen the Greer Garson movie Random Harvest you'll want to pick up Colorado Hope as there are similarities that will appeal.  This book doesn't delve into a sappy nature, which is a pleasant bonus with this delightful and well-written book.

I was provided a copy of this book through PUYB in exchange for my honest review and tour participation.

Book Excerpt:

May 16, 1875

A fierce wind whipped Grace Ann Cunningham’s hair, yanking at the long
strands and pulling them free from their pins. She squinted through the haze of
the blustery day and stroked her bulging belly, trying to comfort her baby, who
seemed just as agitated by the sudden storm.

Her back ached from sitting on the hard buckboard bench all these miles—much
less comfortable than the plush sleeper car they’d enjoyed last week on the
train from Illinois to Cheyenne.

She frowned at the dark roiling clouds that had moved in and quickly blotted
out the sun.

What had been a pleasant uneventful morning was now turning into an ominous
and unsettling afternoon on the open prairie.

Grace sucked in a breath as the baby again kicked her ribs in protest. Her
sweet husband’s sun-browned face tightened in concern as he caught her
gesture. He pulled on the reins of the two draft horses—sturdy ones they’d
bought yesterday in Cheyenne. Surefooted, the seller had told them. And
Monty knew his horses, so she trusted his purchase and assurance that they’d
haul them without incident to Fort Collins. But looking at her husband’s face
now, seeing the subtle telltale signs indicating that he hadn’t expected this
squall nor felt at ease about it, gave her pause. And her normally talkative
husband had been too quiet this last hour, eyeing the sky and listening to the
roar of the nearby river, as if hearing their complaints and trying to suss out
nature’s intentions.

“The baby all right, darlin’?” He scooted over on the buckboard seat to look
her over, then took her hands in his.

Warmth from his gentle grip comforted her, but not as much as the love
streaming from his adoring gaze.

“I think so,” she told him, then smiled as he laid his hand firmly on her belly.

Grace thanked the Lord in a silent prayer for this wonderful man who’d
married her in a simple ceremony last September. All those years she’d lived
with her doting aunt Eloisa in the boardinghouse back in Bloomington, she
never imagined she’d be blessed with such happiness.

When Montgomery Cunningham had first stepped into the parlor to take a room
before starting college at Wesleyan University, she’d been a shy, giggling girl of
ten. Neither of them foresawthe love that would spark six years later when he
showed up again unexpectedly, about to head west to explore and survey lands
unknown.

Monty closed his eyes, his hand still on the baby in her womb. She imagined
him communing with their baby, speaking to it the way he spoke to rivers,
to trees, to the land he traversed by boat and on horseback and on foot.
Something had happened to him when he returned from the Hayden
Yellowstone Expedition. He had changed from boy to man, yes—but it was more
than that. He had fallen in love with the West, and with rivers in particular.
Although he’d studied geology in college with John Powell, water captured his
heart, and he sought out trips that had him navigating whitewater. Nothing
made his eyes sparkle more than talking about the way water moved and
sang as it cascaded and carved the face of mountains and spilled into waiting
valleys. Well, except the way he looked at her.

Monty may have loved rivers, but Grace knew he loved her more. So much
more, for he gladly gave up his exploring to settle down and marry and start
a family. Although, Grace thought moving to the new town of Fort Collins,
Colorado, was adventure enough. She hoped he’d come to see it that way as
well and not be into the wild.

Angels Without Wings ~ Book Blast with Giveaway

Title:  Angels without Wings: Scepter of Faith
Series: The Angels without Wings Series - Book 1
Author: Chris Smith
Genre: YA Christian Fantasy
Publisher: Tate Publishing
Publication Date: March 5, 2013
ISBN: 978-1622956319

For God, we fight; all angels have heard the command. Troy Decker has heard it from his parents countless times. All he wants in life is a chance to prove himself and be granted his scepter - the first gift angels receive from God in their war against Lucifer. Standing in his way is fallen angel Kyle Downey, who used to be best friends with Troy’s parents but is now on a quest to destroy all that is good in the world.

Will Troy ever earn the scepter that God has prepared for him? And what happened between Kyle and Troy’s parents? As the War for Sins rises to heights not seen in generations, Troy must find the strength to hold his faith when demons target his friends and family. In this war, there is only one winner. Will the world fall to demons or be saved by angels?

Book Excerpt:
Chapter 1, Page 1:

Not for the first time in his life, Troy Decker woke from a dream of howling demons. He paused for a moment and reflected on the scene, wishing for what had to be the thousandth time that the dream had been real. He’d prayed for the chance to go on a demon hunt with his dad so many times he’d lost count. He closed his eyes and saw the black claws slashing toward him and heard the fangs snapping at his legs. He could almost feel a sword in his hands, ready to strike the monsters down.

Hunting demons was what he’d been born to do. Most of his prayers to God included a begging request for the chance to stand before the beasts of hell and send them screaming back to the darkness. But as it was, he rubbed sleep from his eyes on the morning of May the 1st knowing he wouldn’t have the opportunity anytime soon. He’d heard so many stories from his parents about the adventures they’d had with his Grandpa John almost twenty years before, but for Troy, only his normal, dreary life lay before him, as usual.

From the look of the sun streaming through the blinds of his bedroom window, it was going to be a glorious day—or should have been, except that it happened to be Troy’s fourteenth birthday. He rolled onto his side and brought his empty hands in front of his face. Only the disappointing emptiness of his skinny fingers and creased palms was present. He closed his hands with one more wish (added to the tally of millions of prayers) that a sword or some other cool weapon was there instead. The lowest of sighs brushed from his lips before he could stop its escape.

“Good morning Troy,” his mom called as she swung open his bedroom door. “Happy Birthday! Fourteen years old… you’ll be driving before you know it.” Her smile welcomed him into the new day better than any ray of sunshine could ever hope to do. “I’m pretty sure you grew an inch last night,” she continued when Troy rolled out of bed to throw on his Nike t-shirt.

Series: The Angels without Wings Series - Book 2
Author: Chris Smith
Genre: YA Christian Fantasy
Publisher: Tate Publishing
Publication Date: August 4, 2013
ISBN: 978-1491022399

For Troy Decker, the world of angels has always been a familiar mystery. Robes, halos, and wings have filled his dreams since he was old enough to crawl. But it wasn’t until the last year that he truly felt like he was one of God’s chosen angels.

He’d thought only a miracle would allow him to receive his scepter. And he was one hundred percent correct. When God granted Troy his scepter, he never dreamed it would be for saving ones of his closest friends. But with many things in his angel life, Troy had to sit back and trust in his faith. Not only in God, but in himself and his family and friends.

Unfortunately, peace rarely finds Troy. With his first gift from God in hand, he must concentrate on the second gift; the robes of an angel - granted for an act of sacrifice. Hindering his progress is a former friend of his parents, Kyle Downey. Kyle is the leader of a group of fallen angels and his sinister plans for Troy bring howling demons and monsters stampeding into the War for Sins.

Can Troy follow the path God has set in front of him? How will he know what to sacrifice to receive the precious gift? And why, more than anything else in the world, does Kyle Downey want Troy to fall?

Book Excerpt:
Chapter 1, page 1:

For the first time in his life, Troy Decker was on a demon hunt with his dad. Not that it looked to be particularly exciting or dangerous, but it was better than mowing the yard or picking up his room. All they were doing at the moment was staring at an abandoned warehouse near a neighborhood of small, shabby houses on the southwest side of Oklahoma City.

Troy had been shook awake on the fine spring morning to his dad hovering over his bed with a look of confused determination on his almost always calm face. The normal, perfectly straight part, on the right side, split his brown hair. Barely a sparkle of the yet risen sun filtered through the blinds of Troy’s bedroom.

“Get ready,” his dad had whispered. “You’re coming with me today. Don’t wake up your mom. Bring your dagger. You may need it.”

“It’s Saturday,” Troy had responded as he swiped sleep residue from his eyes and stifled a yawn while he pulled the small sheath, which held a dagger sharp enough to slice paper without trying, from under his pillow. “Where are we going?”

“Have a job to do,” his dad had given as a cryptic response.

So Troy had rolled out of bed, wolfed down an energy bar, offered by his dad, and shot out the door. Not until they were five minutes down the road did he find out where they were headed.

“Nylla?” Troy scrunched his face. “How big of an infestation is it?”

“Big enough to warrant our attention,” his dad had answered never taking his piercing eyes off the road. “We’ve been noticing some activity in the area for the past month. Demon numbers have been increasing all over the place.”

A ghostly smile haunts Troy Decker’s dreams. A smile of love and sacrifice. A smile that brings heart wrenching waves of guilt. For God, we fight. Troy has long heard the ancient command to God’s angels. His parents have whispered it in his ears with each step. But the last five months have taken a toll on his faith. The War for Sins has raged from one bloody battle to another at the hands of fallen angel, Kyle Downey. Angels have been killed and hordes of demons torn from the depths of hell.

With the help of his friends, Troy struggles to fight the nightmares of the past. Lurking behind a wall of agonizing blame, his dad stresses the importance of the gifts granted to angels by God. Troy has his scepter and robes, but an act of love stands in the way of his sword – the third gift. His eyes often land on his friend, Angela. On her blonde hair and pink angel marks. On the way her smile leaves him breathless with delight. Each heartbeat brings a vision of drawing her slowly into his arms and softly kissing her lips.

Can Troy put the past behind him? What will he need to prove to God in order to be granted his sword? Or will Kyle Downey ravage the world and bring an end to the War for Sins?

Book Excerpt:
Chapter 1, Page 1:

For the first time in his life, Troy Decker was on a demon hunt alone. He’d walked and jogged over four hours to find the street where he was standing. Dark houses lined the neighborhood with only a few overhead lights sparking any hope in the gloom. Troy pressed with the Spirit and approached his target with a determined grin on his narrow face.

It was the eve of his sixteenth birthday, but the normal time of celebration for most teenagers was only another shadowy day to Troy. The last five months had been the worst of his life. Demons filled his dreams whether he was awake or asleep. Howling and cursing, the monsters ate tiny chunks of his soul with each passing minute. Troy shook his head as the memory of the lion-like beast threatened to creep into his thoughts and send a quiver of pain shooting through his chest.

Quickly, he reached into the pocket of his Nike athletic shorts and withdrew the picture he always had stored somewhere close.

On it was a chubby, white haired baby with a giant toothless grin. Holding the laughing boy was the prettiest woman in the history of the planet.

Dirty blonde hair hung past her shoulders and fell perfectly across her thin back. A pointy chin was nuzzling the baby’s cheek, but everything paled in comparison to the smile.

The love of the Lord thrived in the lifting of her mouth.

Troy swallowed an unbidden sob as he peered at his mom. She’d been dead now for over five months. Killed by the poison of a sinna demon’s barb. And it was his fault. Every time he looked at his dad, that fact screamed into his face with thundering certainty.

The past lingers on Troy Decker’s every thought. Losses have piled into the shadows at his heels. The War for Sins has taken a devastating toll on his life. And now, Lucifer has his eyes set on Troy’s very soul. With his chief fallen angel, Kyle Downey, spreading violence and discord around the globe, Lucifer has set plans in motion to end the War and bring a reign of terror upon the Earth.

For Troy, that means he must rush to receive his final two gifts from God. Gifts that will make him a fully-fledged angel and give him the power to resist Lucifer and all his demons. The granting of his fourth gift – a halo – looms as he struggles to stay one step ahead of Kyle and his Dark Hearts. A simple act of redemption stands in Troy’s way for this blessed sign of an angel. In a race against time, Troy must find the correct path to follow, not only in the eyes of his loved ones, but also for himself… or risk losing everything he knows and loves.

Book Excerpt:
Chapter 1, Page 1:

For the first time in his life, Troy Decker was hunting a human. Or a man who appeared to be human, at least. He’d been dogging the man’s trail on and off for two weeks. Watching and waiting while reading all the news on the mid-term Senate race in northern California.

Mrs. Chelsie Elliott was the front running Democrat in the Senate race, but her aide and assistant was Troy’s true target. The man was tall and thick. Broad shoulders stretched the expensive three piece suit flashing in the California sunlight. A blood red tie tucked crisply behind the shiny buttons. Neatly cropped hair was parted on the left. Soft grey eyes smiled warmly wherever he happened to look. But a menace resided under the glitzy exterior.

“We can’t do this alone,” Mrs. Elliott chanted into a microphone behind a wooden podium. “Each of us has a responsibility to turn this country in the right direction. And I’m here to make sure we steer this great ship back on the correct path.”

Troy shook his head as a gust of hot wind brushed across his face. He was mixed with a crowd of eager voters, but without trying he picked out several staged crew members of the candidate who had been placed to start the cheers and rousing ovations at the right spots of her speech.

For twenty minutes, Mrs. Elliott blared from one wrong doing of her opponent to the next – never actually discussing any plans to truly help her future constituents’ lives. Troy lingered at the edges of the crowd after she finished and kept his eyes on the man who was constantly scribbling notes to hand to the soon-to-be State Senator.

As Troy walked to the rented car, a half a block down the street of the small town he’d driven to that morning, his scepter glowed to life in a peaceful hum against his chest. The foot and a half long golden rod had been gifted to him by the very hand of God nearly three years ago. The memory made a smile lift instantly.

A Wedding and A Killing ~ Review

A Wedding and A Killing
A Mac Faraday Mystery 8
By Lauren Carr

Mac Faraday and Archie Monday are prepared to have a secret wedding one without crowds and fuss, but a murder in the church puts everything on hold.

As the investigation progresses long held secrets are brought to light - secrets that raise more questions.  As rumors swirl about the victim Mac is determined to solve this case and return to the altar and say I do!

A Wedding and A Killing is perfect for fans of a good mystery. And as an added bonus there is A Gnarly Mystery Short - The Gnarly Rehabilitation Program.  This short is just too funny.  Gnarly (Mac's German Shepherd) is dognapped.  And Gnarly has the dognappers begging Mac to come get Gnarly.

I totally love Gnarly in both the short and the feature book.  Gnarly is the one who discovered the victim and he really keeps the story interesting with his antics.

I was provided a copy of this book through PUYB in exchange for my honest review and my participation in this tour.

About A Wedding and a Killing:
When Mac Faraday decides to do something, there’s no stopping him … even murder!

Not wanting to wait until their big day to start their life of wedded bliss, Mac Faraday and his lady love, Archie Monday, decide to elope to the little church where his ancestors had all married—along the tranquil shore of Deep Creek Lake. However, before they can say, “I do,” the sanctuary erupts into chaos when Gnarly finds a dead body in the church office.

As they dive into the investigation, Mac and his team discover more questions than answers. What kind of person walks into a church and shoots a man for no apparent reason? How do you solve the murder of a man who has no enemies in the world? Which of the seemingly kind-hearted church members is really a cold-blooded killer?

Then, there is the all-important question, how long do Mac Faraday and his lady love have to wait to get married?

Chapter 1 Reveal:
Saturday, 8:14 p.m.

This is a KGX Channel 7 Breaking News Report. I’m
Valerie Parker.

Four teenagers have gone missing tonight from an adventure
camp in Northern Idaho. Early reports say the teens and their
river guide were involved in a rafting accident sometime this
afternoon. Their names are being withheld pending notification
of their parents. Rescue teams are being assembled, according
to local authorities. The camp earns the title, “The safest camp
in Idaho” every year. Tragically,  after today all that has changed
forever. Stay tuned to KGX Channel 7 for more details as they
develop...

Thursday, two days earlier

It was a warm August afternoon and Camp Arrowhead buzzed with
activity. New teen campers had been streaming in since mid-morning.
Savannah Evans, who had arrived earlier in the day, was heading toward
the message board to check out the day’s schedule when she noticed
another car pull into the drop zone.

Curious, she waited to catch a glimpse of the new camper. But
before she saw the passenger, a huge commotion exploded in the arriving
vehicle.

An agitated woman who appeared to be the girl’s mother started yelling
from inside of the car. “Come on, Jade! Hurry up and get out of the car;
we’ve got a plane to catch!”

Savannah watched in shock as the distraught girl scurried out of the
backseat as fast as she could. In tow were a backpack, two suitcases, and a
purse slowly winding itself around the poor girl’s arm. In an instant the auto
sped off, leaving a trail of dust and the young teen in a heap. There were
no hugs or even attempts at a goodbye, only a heartless door slam and
the vehicle peeling off at a high rate of speed.

Staggering under the weight of her load, the devastated girl fell to the
ground and began sobbing.

Savi was stunned by the dramatic scene happening in front of her.

What was THAT all about? Was that her mom? Savannah thought to herself.

Pretty rough no matter who it was!

She felt sorry for the distraught new arrival crying on the ground.

“How embarrassed I’d feel if that was me, especially with everybody
watching.” She thought.

“I should go and help her.”

She hurried over to the drop off area, bent down on one knee, and did her
best to comfort the frazzled stranger.

“Can I help you with some of this stuff? It looks like a lot for one person
to carry.”

Startled, the girl at first tried to shake off the unwelcome intruder. “Leave
me alone—I don’t need any help,” she said in a harsh tone. “Who are you,
anyway?”

“My name’s Savannah, but my friends call me Savi. I...I just thought you
could use some help.”

Savi waited patiently for the girl to collect herself. Slowly she lifted her
tear-stained face to see who had spoken to her so kindly. The sight
of her face made Savannah inhale sharply.

“What? I look stupid, right? I already know that.” The girl said even more
perturbed.

“No, not at all. I wasn’t thinking anything like that.

It’s just...you’re really pretty.”

In her sixteen years of living in Oxford, Mississippi she never saw a girl as
beautiful as this one. Despite the tear tracks on her face and a pair of puffy
eyes, she looked like a real life sized china doll. Her milky white complexion
contrasted by her long shiny black hair was stunning. When you added
in her soft delicate features, she was flawless. As close to perfect as a girl
her age could look.

The girl finally realized that Savi was only trying to be friendly and helpful.

“Thanks for saying that, Savi, but I don’t feel very pretty right now...My name’s
Jade Chang—Sorry I snapped at you—Do you mind if I call you Savi?”

“Not at all, I’d like that,” Savi replied with a smile.

“I feel like such a fool. I can’t believe my mother did that to me,” she said
shaking her head.

“Well...you’re not going to have to deal with her for a while. Come on. Let’s go
see what cabin you’re in... Maybe we’re in the same one.”

Jade stood up and with Savi’s help gathered up her belongings and headed for
the camp office. As they walked, Savi looked down at Jade’s Coach purse, Tumi
suitcases, and North Face backpack. All this great stuff... but she still seems so
unhappy.

During their walk to the office, Savi looked over at Jade and could see she
was deep in thought and that her heart was heavy. So while carrying her suitcase
with her right hand, she lifted her left and patted her gently on the back. Jade was
touched by the kind gesture so she glanced over at Savi and gave her a friendly
smile. Savi grinned friend at camp.

“Savi, I noticed you’re limping. Did you hurt your ankle?”

“Actually, I hurt it a few years ago,” she replied. “Oh I didn’t mean to...”

“That’s okay, it’s no big deal.”

“No, really,” Jade said apologetically, “I’m sorry for being so nosey.”

“No worries,” Savi replied. “It’s not as if you asked me how much I weigh or
something,” as she rolled her eyes and gave Jade a friendly nudge with her elbow.

Both girls laughed and continued walking toward the camp office. On the way,
Savi said to Jade, “How ‘bout I tell you the story about my ankle later?” Then the
two of them agreed to put off the subject for another time.

When they arrived at the office, they looked for the cabin assignments posted
outside the door. Savi could tell Jade was already feeling a bit more comfortable
and starting to relax.

“Jade over here...Those are the boys’ cabins...Here’s the girls’. I’m sure they’d
be thrilled to see you, though,” Savi joked.

Embarrassed, Jade threw her head back and then made her way over to where
Savi was standing in front of the girls’ cabin assignment board.

“You said, ‘Chang,’ right?” Savi asked, running her finger down the list of
names.

“That’s right,” Jade replied.

“Here you are...Oh that stinks! We’re in different cabins,” Savi noted.“Want to
go inside and see if they’ll move us to the same one?”

Jade looked over at her and paused a moment... “Umm, okay. That sounds
great.”

The girls did their best to convince the camp director that they should be in the
same cabin. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t budge. But he told them he’d keep in mind
their desire to be together when planning future events. When they left the office,
the girls decided to drop off Jade’s stuff at her cabin and grab a cool drink. After
leaving the snack shack, they found a shady spot on a carved log bench.

“I promised I’d tell you about my ankle. I guess this is as good a time as any.”

“You know you don’t have to,” Jade replied.

“I know, but I want you to know how I got my limp.”

“I have to admit...I am a bit curious.”

“Well, when I was eight years old, the U.S. National Gymnastics Team came to
Oxford, Mississippi to put on an exhibition at Ole Miss.”

“Ole Miss?” questioned Jade.

“Oh sorry, that’s short for University of Mississippi. Anyway, my dad took me to
see the competition and that event changed my life.”

Jade shrugged. “How?”

“Watching the different routines was so cool. I instantly fell in love with
gymnastics, particularly the balance beam. The girls were so graceful but strong
at the same time. I dreamed of becoming one of them. For the next three years I
trained on the beam and competed in a bunch of events. My goal was to make the
U.S. National Team.”

Suddenly, Savi stopped. “I’m not boring you, am I?”

“No, not at all! I’m really interested. Keep going.”

“In just three years, I was ranked fourth in the nation in my age category.
Everybody was so proud of me. But only the top three girls went to nationals.
The final cuts were a few years ago in Nashville. I was tied for second place
with this girl named Julie, with only one routine to go—I was freaking out! I knew
my only hope of beating her and advancing was to do a flawless routine and
stick my landing. Everything was going great until my final element, an aerial
summersault. It was always my most challenging move. I was hoping I could pull
it off. The summersault was perfect but as I landed on the beam...” Savi paused
and looked down at her ankle. “My left foot hit the beam wrong and my ankle
snapped like a dry branch.”

“Oh my gosh, that’s awful! I’m so sorry.”

“Yeah, me too. Because that ended my career in gymnastics and my dream of
going to the Olympics.”

“They couldn’t fix it?” Jade asked.

“They tried, but it never healed quite right, so I’ve learned to live with it. I get
around just fine, though.”

“I can see that—Wow! That’s quite a story. Thanks for telling it to me.”

“Well, now you know a little about me, but I know absolutely nothing about you.
Next time we meet, it’s your turn.”

“That’s a deal.”

They both finished their drinks and stood up.

“I can’t believe how tall you are! You must be at least 5'7".”

“Actually, I’m 5'8",” Jade said proudly.

“I knew you were up there. I’ve always been on the short side. Only 5'2". But you
know what they say, ‘good things come in small packages.’” Jade smiled and
nodded in agreement. Then they said good-bye, and headed toward their separate
cabins.

Savi called over her shoulder, “I’ll look for you later!”

“Okay, later!” Jade yelled back.

Savi was on the way back to her cabin when she came upon three boys leaning
against a big tree, joking around with each other. She caught one of the boy’s eyes
and he watched her as she walked by toward the cabins. He immediately noticed
her limp and nudged his friends. “Look at that one. I didn’t know this camp was
open to special needs kids!” he said in a raised voice, most likely for her to hear.
Again, the same boy blurted out, “I hope they don’t match me up on some activity
with ‘lame girl.’”

Savi overheard the insult but pretended she didn’t. She also heard one of the
boys standing with him say, “Nice one, Conner!”

By the time Savi reached her cabin, she was red-faced and fuming. Alone,
sitting on her bed, she stared out the window at Conner. She watched as he and
his friends amused themselves at the expense of others walking by.

Here we go again, she thought to herself. I thought I left those bullies back
at school! Then, she rose to her feet and stepped outside of the cabin. With an
animated face and a loud voice she yelled in the bully’s direction, “Hey, Conner!
Your mom’s on the phone and says you forgot to pack your blankie and Batman
underwear!”

Instantly, a roar of laughter erupted from those within earshot of her clever
retort. This time it was Conner’s turn to feel the sting of humiliation. He slinked
away to his cabin not to be seen again until the dinner bell.

Savi stood in front of her cabin triumphant, though she did feel somewhat
ashamed for finding the taste of revenge so sweet. Suddenly, a familiar voice
shouted from across the campground, “Savi, come look! We’re paired up together
for tomorrow’s rafting trip! We’re in the same raft!”

She leaped for joy and joined Jade at the message board for an energetic high
five.

“And guess what? There are boys in our raft. Two of them!” Jade proclaimed
excitedly. “One’s named Rico Cruz and the other is some guy named Conner
Swift.”

“What?” Savi yelled. “Conner...I just met that jerk! I’m not getting in a raft with him.

No way!” Savi vowed.

“Oh, yes you are, little lady!” Savi heard Camp Director Anderson say forcefully
behind her. “All raft assignments are final. What’s done is done. There will be NO
changes!” the director reiterated as he walked away.

Savi stood staring blankly at the message board.

What could be worse than being in a raft with Conner Swift! It wouldn’t be
long before she’d find out.

Jim Greene's Unlocking Your Spiritual Greatness Book Blitz and Giveaway

Title of Book # 1: Unlocking Your Spiritual Greatness
ISBN:  978-1-105-46980-0
Genre: Spiritual Maturity, Christianity, Discipleship Training
Publisher: LuLu Enterprises, Inc.
Publication Date: 2005, 2011
Just like there are specific physical exercises that are good for physical conditioning, there are specific spiritual exercises that are good, in fact, essential for our spiritual conditioning and growth. If you want to grow spiritually, you have to do spiritual exercises. (1Timothy 4:8)
This book looks to Jesus for “duplicate-able” activities for the model for our growth. For years Christian writers have identified specific activities regularly evidenced in his earthly life and called them Spiritual or Christian Disciplines. I believe that if it was useful for Jesus to be disciplined in his worship and praise to God, then it is useful for us as well. Further, I believe that the inclusion of Christian Disciplines in our lives, or what I call the Disciplined Training Approach places us in obedient submission to God and that is where we are supposed to be.
Book excerpt:
God has outlined a plan for living that when followed will bring us into a closer fellowship with Him. All the treasure in the world will not purchase it, but God will provide it for free to whosoever really wants it. No matter how worthless you may think you are, you can become one of the greatest treasures in the world.  You can become the person God wants you to be, equipped with all the supernatural power for the Kingdom work He wants you to do!
Simply put, if you hear what God tells you, trust that He will not lead you astray and do what you’re told to do, you will experience the peace God planned for you. More than that, the consequences of ignoring God can be anxiety, frustration, depression and even eternal separation from Him.
People, however, are not simple.  In fact, we go to great lengths to take something simple and complicate it.  Our relationship with God should be personal, based on the time we spend with Him.  We can’t manufacture a relationship with Him, but we can come to know him based on our personal experiences.
If you want to be blessed, comforted or reassured in a small way, then exercise a small amount of faith.  If however, you need your life changed... it may take more. It starts with regular prayer, regular meditation and regular listening. It continues when we do things outside our comfort zone and that’s exactly where faith begins.
Your life will change when you realize God’s ability
zone is greater than your comfort zone.

Title of Book #2   God’s Answer, Praying the Scriptures Back to God
God gave us the Bible as a constant reminder of His love and plan for us. More than a historical document, it is truly alive. As we read His Word and become heart-linked with Him, a supernatural transformation begins to take place in us.  God’s Word is alive and we can’t comprehend it all at once. That explains why you can read a passage several times over weeks or months and receive a different message from the same verses.
God gave us prayer as an avenue or vehicle that He designed for us so we could be in constant communication with Him. God’s Answer seeks to bring you to His Throne of Grace, where prayers are answered, (Hebrews 4:16) so that you can claim the promises God makes about today’s problems. That’s a tall order, so let’s look at what He said about prayer in His Living Word, the Bible.
Several times He promises us that He will hear and in fact, answer our prayers. It would be great to think that we always get what we want or that we could just name it and claim it, but that simply is not the case. What we can claim is the promises God makes and we will be exploring those. Let’s examine a few passages and see what they reveal beyond God hearing us and answering our prayers.

Title of Book #3        A Place of Faith, When There is No Place Else to Go
What or where is the place of faith?  Is it a physical location? No, it is where we are when we step out into the unknown in a blind, yet obedient faith because that is all we have left.  Our Christian vocabulary is filled with ideas, quotes and even promises from God that are meant for comfort and reassurance. As real as God’s Word is, what happens when all has been recalled and rehearsed and we still find ourselves alone at the place of faith. A Place of Faith defines faith from a real and practical viewpoint, then develops it’s progression from a measure of faith, to a step and then a leap of faith.  Most importantly, time is spent on the Enemy of Faith and the Trial of Faith and finally, The Results of Faith. Each chapter concludes with a hymn that reinforces the points made in the chapter and a few reflection questions.

Title of Book #4  Living on the Dark Side of Faith
While faith has two sides, they are both sides of the same thing. The word faith cannot be substituted for the word belief or theology. It is more than a collection of thoughts about religion. It is more than simply believing in the existence of God, the demons in Hell do that. The faith we speak of is in God and how, though we may not see how, He will provide for His beloved. The faith we have is certain; it is the evidence of things to come. It begins with a measure and increases with experience and that often means a trial or test of our faith. </ div>
