This is a psychological thriller that you'll want to keep reading with each chapter. If you are a fan of romantic suspense, don't look for it in this book which is the first in a new series. Kenna is hurting from what happened two years ago. and it would be a disservice to her character in this book to pursue a romance. I recommend it with a caution to be aware that there is off-scene violence that one reads the results of.

I kept waiting for the killer to pop out at any opportunity and start terrorizing any and all in his proximity. The book is intense and yet not over the top. I will admit Josh needed a good shaking to make him wake up and realize what a muddle he was making of everything. 

This is the final book in the Cowboy Lawmen series, and though it would be beneficial to read all the books in order, you can read this book as a standalone title if you haven't read the other books. So make an appointment with your favorite reading nook for a weekend getaway with a book or two, with this being the first in your tbr pile.

The pacing is good - it keeps one's attention fully engaged. This is the third book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series and though it should be read in series order it can be read as a standalone book without any difficulty. I think I'd say this is a book of secrets and it is interesting how the more tightly a secret is held the more imperative that it be revealed. And just a word of warning - keep your eyes open for unattended drones - just saying after reading this book technology and smart devices won't look the same ever again.

But soon the two mysteries seem to be overlapping as danger seems to be lurking around the corner. Are the two related even though nearly six decades separate them? 

Fatal Code gives one an insight into Kekoa by sharing parts of his history. An incident in his past caused Kekoa to leave home and family behind. Kekoa is an interesting person - caring, intense, focused, and loyal. Elinor is a fairly private person who seems to trust people but only so far due to her relationship with her parents.

Fatal Code doesn't ignore the other members of SNAP and I have to admit I love Lyla's character. She is sassy, intelligent, capable, and caring. Her relationship with the other SNAP team members is interesting.

If you haven't read the previous book or novella in the series you can read this book and still follow along with no major problems. But I really think you will enjoy this book more fully if you read Lights Out (book one) and Intitium (series prequel novella) first.

I enjoyed this book in both the paperback and the Audio version. The audio version was narrated by MacLeod Andrews and the narration was good - I did speed it up to 1.4x to get it in line with my normal reading speed. Both versions are excellent and well worth adding to your home library.

Now, this is not a clean or a gentle read but there is nothing overly graphic or extraneous in this book. There is murder and violence but no gory descriptive details to bog you down or bring on nightmares. The nightmares are left to Rem, no matter which timeline he finds himself they persist. Highly recommend this book to fans of suspense!
