Paddington 2 ~ Movie Trailer

Paddington Bear has been a beloved character in over 150 books since 1958 and he is about to star in his second big-screen production which is releasing on January 12, 2018.

Are you wondering what this movie is all about? Well, wonder no further...

  • Following the worldwide hit “Paddington,” one of the most successful family films of all time, this much-anticipated sequel finds Paddington (Ben Whishaw) happily settled with the Brown family in London, where he has become a popular member of the local community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes.
  • While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy’s hundredth birthday, Paddington sees a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber’s antique shop, and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it.  But when the book is stolen, it’s up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief.
  • Paddington 2 stars: Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Hugh Grant (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Sally Hawkins (Jayne Eyre), Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm), Julie Walters (Mamma Mia) and Ben Whishaw (The Hollow Crown) as the voice of Paddington.
Sounds delightful and perfect for a family movie time together. And really who wouldn't love to get a pop-up book as a gift?

The Man Who Invented Christmas ~ Giveaway

Can you imagine Christmas without carols, giving,
and the phrase “Bah Humbug?”

THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS tells the magical journey that led to the creation of Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and other classic characters from “A Christmas Carol.”

This special holiday film is sure to become another Christmas classic!

In celebration of this new movie, a 3-movie DVD giveaway is taking place. Yes, that's right 3 movies! But to find out more please read through the rest of this post and enter below to join in on this early Christmas fun.

First off a little about the movie:

The Man Who Invented Christmas tells the magical journey that led to the creation of Ebenezer Scrooge (Christopher Plummer), Tiny Tim and other classic characters from A Christmas Carol. Directed by Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day), the film shows how Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) mixed real-life inspirations with his vivid imagination to conjure up unforgettable characters and a timeless tale, forever changing the holiday season into the celebration we know today.

THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS releases in theaters on
November 22, 2017.

That's right the movie opens the day before Thanksgiving
Have plans for the holiday weekend yet?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Now when it comes to your own Christmas traditions what do you most look forward to?  Is there a favorite movie that you just have to see and enjoy with those closest to you?  For my family, there are a couple of movies we look forward to. One Magic Christmas allows a woman to see just how blessed she truly is when she thinks that she has lost everything (husband, children, home, and job). The other movie that we enjoy is The Christmas Carol, the one starring Patrick Stewart. The acting is superb and Ebenezer's transformation is truly a thing to behold from young hurting child to miser to reformed uncle.

Unlike Scrooge, we in my household don't hold with the idea of not helping those in need and over the years have helped others through local giving to the food bank, clothing drives, and toy drives. But one of our greatest pleasures, as well as heartbreaks, has been ChildFund International. Watching these children grow and mature through years of correspondence can touch even the Scroogiest heart. And Christmas offers a chance to give them an additional gift. It is amazing how so little here can go further in another country offering the hope of an additional source of income for years to come. This was an organization that my mother supported before she and my father married and to this day my family continues to support several through it. If you are willing to stretch your heart check out this worthwhile organization. www.ChildFund.org

Goodbye Christopher Robin ~ Movie Review with Trailer

Goodbye Christopher Robin

I was given the opportunity to preview Goodbye Christopher Robin and I naturally agreed. After all who hasn't heard about Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and the Hundred Acre Wood. This is the story behind this beloved story.

A.A. Milne has lost his focus, his life is caught between his desire to write something that will change the world and having to live with the after-effects of living through the Great War, the war that was to end all wars. It is in this climate that the Milne's have a son whom they name Christopher Robin but call Billy. When Billy is left to his father's care for a short period of time what follows is an almost magical period of bonding between father and son. And the Hundred Acre Wood comes to life and the residents come to life and soon begin to grace pages that become a world that brings healing and happiness to a world that had lost so much to war.

But what was Billy's soon becomes Christopher Robin's and the magical bond that father and son had found was lost amongst the clamor for Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh, and more.

This is a story that is heart-warming and yet has a thread of heartbreak that runs through it as it explores and examines the bond between Alan Milne and Billy "Christopher Robin" Milne. Those who have seen and enjoyed Finding Neverland will find Goodbye Christopher Robin has a similar feel to it. The scenery and the soundtrack are beautiful and bring an added depth to the movie. This is a movie that can be enjoyed with your children. There are scenes of war and a few instances of bullying so young children may wish to avoid this but most children over 8 should be fine with this movie.

GOODBYE CHRISTOPER ROBIN stars Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Revenant, Unbroken), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad) and Kelly MacDonald (Brave, Nanny McPhee).  It is directed by Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn, Woman In Gold) and written by Simon Vaughan and Frank Cottrell Boyce (who you may or may not know wrote famous children’s book Chitty Chitty Bang Bang).

~ A Wrinkle In Time ~

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle is one of my all time favorite books. I was delighted when I picked up my sister's copy and delved into this new world. A world of It Who Which and What. A world without individuality and uniqueness and world threatened by darkness. And now that world of words is about to come to life in a new way.

Synopsis:

A Wrinkle In Time opens in US theatres March 9, 2018.

The film, which is an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and ultimately, the triumph of love.

Directed by Ava DuVernay from a screenplay by Jennifer Lee based upon the beloved novel by Madeleine L’Engle, “A Wrinkle in Time” is produced by Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand with Doug Merrifield serving as executive producer. The film stars: Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peňa, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, André Holland, Rowan Blanchard with Zach Galifianakis and Chris Pine and introduces Storm Reid.

Madeleine L’Engle (1918-2007)

Madeleine was born on November 29, 1918, and spent her formative years in New York City. She married her husband Hugh Franklin and together they had three children and relocated to Connecticut. While her children were young L’Engle taught Sunday school for her church. Once her children were older she worked as a librarian at Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City where she held the position for nearly thirty years.

The Promise ~ Thoughts on Sacrifice

The Promise
THE PROMISE, an epic and poignant film starring Academy-Award winner Christian Bale, Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Nativity Story), Marwan Kenzari and Charlotte Le Bon.

The PROMISE is a touching story about sacrifice and love.  The film portrays two heroes – one with the courage to stand-up for the truth and speak out against injustice – and the other, a friend willing to pay the ultimate price to do what’s right.

Sometimes it is our friends who are the everyday and little known heroes who strengthen and nourish us.  Their presence is a blessing – whether as a shoulder to lean or as a literal lifesaver.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Have you ever known a person in your own life who was willing to sacrifice for another? A sacrifice that affected the life of others? I have ~ here is a glimpse at what he gave.

J was faced with a decision he could reenlist or he could get out of the military. He was promised that if he reenlisted he would not be sent into the war zone. J needed this assurance with the promise of his first child on the way and his wife's fragile condition. With the assurances that he would stay where he was for the foreseeable future J signed the dotted line so to speak.

Less than a week after reenlisting J's assurances were gone and he was going to be deployed into the war hot zone. His wife was understandably distraught, but there was nothing that could do. He had reenlisted and his future was no longer his choice.

But J had a friend - one who saw the situation J now found himself in. R was determined to do all he could to make right the situation J now found himself in. R offered to take J's place in the war and surprisingly his offer was acceptable to those who had the final say in deployment. R experienced the war that J was meant to see and to live. But R did what he did for J, his wife and the child they would soon welcome. R made it through the war but at a cost to his own health. But he did it for his friend and he never expressed a regret for the sacrifice he made.

Sometimes a simple word of encouragement makes a world of difference in someone's day. A helping hand, a listening ear, an offer of a shared lunch, a warm pot of soup. One may never know how a simple kindness and a smile can change another's world.

“Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
- John 15:13  (KJV)

Synopsis:
It is 1914. As the Great War looms, the mighty Ottoman Empire is crumbling. Constantinople, the once vibrant, multicultural capital on the shores of the Bosporus, is about to be consumed by chaos.

Michael Boghosian (Oscar Isaac), arrives in the cosmopolitan hub as a medical student determined to bring modern medicine back to Siroun, his ancestral village in Southern Turkey where Turkish Muslims and Armenian Christians have lived side by side for centuries. Photo-journalist Chris Myers (Christian Bale), has come here only partly to cover geo-politics. He is mesmerized by his love for Ana (Charlotte le Bon), an Armenian artist he has accompanied from Paris after the sudden death of her father.

When Michael meets Ana, their shared Armenian heritage sparks an attraction that explodes into a romantic rivalry between the two men. As the Turks form an alliance with Germany and the Empire turns violently against its own religious and ethnic minorities, their conflicting passions must be deferred while they join forces to survive even as events threaten to overwhelm them.

Promises are made and promises are broken. The one promise that must be kept is to live on and tell the story.

THE PROMISE is directed by Academy-Award winner Terry George (Hotel Rwanda, Hart’s War).

Who is the heroine of your life? ~ The Zookeeper's Wife Trailer and Giveaway

Who is the heroine of your life?

Everyday life goes on around us and we don't always notice the little things that those around us are doing. Often these little things are the things that make our life easier, these are the things that can change our world. Often the heroine of our life does so quietly, sending out tiny ripples that have a far greater effect upon us than we would ever realize looking forward. But when we look behind us we see a fuller picture.

A gentle nudge here or there to encourage us to overcome a seemingly insurmountable obstacle - an obstacle that is but a small rise to any even greater hill and then into the mountains. It can be a hand to help us regain our footing when we've slipped. A steadying influence as we peddle for the first time. The helpful hints to remember how to spell a word or master a mathematical challenge or preventing a scientific disaster when a report is due the next day.

My heroine has done all this and more. She's been there when I've needed someone to talk to or a rare shoulder to cry on. She's championed those in need by giving what she can and could and has encouraged me to do the same. A heroine doesn't need to go out looking for dragons to slay - she sees the needs around her and just does what is necessary to accomplish her goal. She makes her small corner of the world better by doing what she can and the ripples that she sends out have an untold effect on those who are touched by them.

My heroine is a quiet champion who does what she can whenever she can. Who is the heroine of your life?

Race to Win ~ Review with DVD giveaway

Race to Win
Starring Danielle Campbell, Luke Perry,
Aiden Flowers, Candice Michele Barley,
Amy Brassette, Thomas Francis Murphy,
and Lance E. Nichols

Awarded the Dove® Foundation Seal of Approval and approved for all ages.

Race to Win is a film that is about family and pulling together in the face of tragedy. The sudden and unexpected death of Gentry Rhodes has left his family in turmoil as they struggle to not only come to terms with his loss from their lives but also the unexpected debt they now find themselves facing.

His daughter Hannah feels that she is the one who must hold the family together and come up with a plan to earn the money they need to save their home and her father's dream. But as is often the case the man holding the debt over them is not willing to give them time to come up with the money (he'd probably make an unreformed Ebeneezer Scrooge proud).

Though dad, played by Luke Perry, dies early on in the movie he makes "visits" to his family offering them encouragement and even sharing a secret with one family member that will keep the viewer wondering what he revealed.

This movie is appropriate for all ages to view without parents cringing at unexpected scenes that their children might see. There are a couple scenes that take place in a bar / pool room. Those who know horses might roll their eyes at a few scenes but if you only have a passing familiarity with them you won't notice.  Overall it is a good film and one you'll be able to enjoy with your children.

I was provided a review copy of this movie by Grace Hill Media with no expectations of a positive review ~ all expressed opinions are my own.

The Spirit of Christmas ~ Thoughts and Giveaway

The Spirit of Christmas

Over the years Christmas has changed as evidenced by the songs
that we sing and have sung through the years. Is Christmas still the
happiest time of the year? Do strangers go out of their way to smile
at the passerby?

Christmas has been caught up in the rush to get through our to do lists,
our to buy lists, and our end of the year lists. But Christmas doesn't have
to be a struggle and a stress. When we look to what we consider the first
Christmas we see it was a simple stable with animals and bedding. There
were no grand gifts or grand visitors. The only ones to celebrate the night
of Christ's birth were simple shepherds who left their fields in the clothes
that they were wearing, they didn't stop to get the most fashionable look of
the day. They celebrated a special event in the quiet of the night, surrounded
by the sounds and smells of animals.

The simplicity of the season is what I love.  A lighted candle, the beauty of song
and the remembrance that a child's birth was about to change the world forever.
But the manger, most likely crafted from roughened wood, was but the first step to
the cross, which was also crafted from roughened wood.

Faith is what makes the season come alive.
It isn't about getting.
It is about receiving
the greatest gift
of  all.
Life
with
God.
