Dangerous Passage ~ Review

Dangerous Passage
Southern Crimes #1
By Lisa Harris

Sometimes the southern charms of Atlanta are lost on Detective Avery North especially when it comes to a potential serial killer roaming the streets.  Two young Jane Does have been dumped as if they were nothing more than refuse and Avery is determined to stop the killer before he strikes again.

But Avery is more than just a detective.  She is widowed with a 12 year old daughter.  And she is searching for her brother's killer.  Trying to balance her personal life with her professional life is almost a tightrope act especially when she starts dating (or trying to date might be a more apt description) Jackson Bryant who happens to be the newest medical examiner in Atlanta.

But when Avery's Jane Doe cases start to point at something more sinister than just murder lives are on the line and the case takes on a personal significance.  But who is trying to stop Avery and what exactly are they trying to cover-up.

Dangerous Passages takes a look at the often overlooked world of human trafficking and the true cost it inflicts on those caught up in it.  The promise of a better life is in fact a lie to trap the unsuspecting in a life of torturous slavery and Dangerous Passage offers just a small glimpse.

Dangerous Passage is a moving thoughtfully written book.  It looks at the importance of family while at the same time dealing with the realities that the world of law enforcement faces to keep the world safe for their families.  This is a book that will capture your attention and hold it until the very end.  You will feel Avery's pain and sense of loss and you will appreciate the steading advice given to her by her father.

The excellence of the writing and the storyline will leave you, as it did me, anticipating the second book in the Southern Crimes series.  This is romantic suspense at its best!

I was provided a copy of this title by the publisher - Revell, in exchange for my honest review.

Available August 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.
