The Bear of Rosethorn Ring ~ Review

The Bear of Rosethorn Ring:
A Snow White and Rose Red Story
Once Upon a Twist Tales #4
By Kirsten Ficher

Marita Kadlec has had enough and wants to let her father fly the nest, so to speak when he runs away via a hot air balloon. But Diamond is of a different mind than her twin sister, she wants a chance to do something for the father she has never known. Their search is more frustrating than anything until they stumble across a most disagreeable individual whose only care seems to be his beard.

But soon they discover there is a bit more to Lorcan D'vard than just an obsessive fixation on his beard. D'vard has an assassin seeking him out and he'll release their father to them, free of his debts if Marita and Diamond agree to rid D'vard of this killer.

But Marita is less than thrilled as her father's antics have caused endless issues over the years. But Diamond wants a chance to get to know her father and for Diamond, Marita is willing to help her father.

This book is about family, second chances, forgiveness, and love. Now I will admit this my first time reading Kirsten Fichter's work so I have not read the first three books in the series. I was able to read the book and enjoy it but the references to previous events make me want to read the previous books so that I know what exactly is being referred to. I like how Marita and Diamond are getting to know one another. I also like Felix and want to know more of his backstory. (I see a purchase from Amazon in my future.) And if you love fairytale retellings this book takes its cues from Snow White and Red Rose. Looking for a sweet read (with a few not-so-sweet moments) this is one for you.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

About the Book:

How far would Snow White and Rose Red go to save the man behind the bear?

When their father runs away, Marita and Diamond Kadlec realize how different twins can be. Marita’s ready to forget Lucas entirely, but Diamond wants to give him the second chance she’s never been able to give before. That’s before they discover that Lucas is indebted to the ill-tempered D’vard and his traveling circus, the Rosethorn Ring. The Ring’s entertainment lacks a bear, and Lucas must play the part of the savage creature to regain his freedom.

Lorcan D’vard cares only for three things: tending to his beloved beard, promoting his
Rosethorn Ring, and eradicating the assassin out to kill him. With time running out, D’vard
agrees to cancel Lucas’s debt and let him go free – if Marita and Diamond can apprehend the
assassin before the assassin ends the show.

This is Snow White and Rose Red with a twist like you’ve never seen it before.

About the Series:

Once Upon a Twist Tales are your favorite fairytales retold backwards and upside-down, with a little bit of steampunk thrown in for fun.

Other Books in the Series:

Book One ~ The Rose and the Balloon: A Beauty and the Beast Story

Book Two ~ Spindle Dreams: A Sleeping Beauty Story

Book Three ~ Diamond: A Rapunzel Story

About the Author:

Kirsten Fichter is a twenty-something Christian writer who loves being the wife to her favorite person ever, mommy to two precious blessings, a piano enthusiast, a dragon buff, a serious bookworm, and an INFP synesthete. Fairytales have always fascinated her, and she has made it her goal to rewrite as many as possible and become known as the “Grimm Dickens” (i.e. mixing Grimm fairytales with a Dickens style). She is present in many online circles under the name “Kiri Liz” if you care about things like that. As you read this, she’ll be somewhere under a maple tree – trying very hard to finish the seventeen and half other stories she unwisely started all at once.

  1. Thank you for sharing this sweet review as part of my blog tour! :)

One of my goals in writing this book was to make it "standalone enough" -- meaning someone new could read it and understand it without having read the previous books, YET make them hungry for more. So I guess I succeeded! *winks*

  2. Love your review! I also haven't read the other books in the series when I read this story, but I will be sure to do it now!
