Uneasy Fortunes

Uneasy Fortunes
Uneasy Fortunes
by Mandi Ellsworth

When Pete Faralay seeks employment at Betteridge Ranch he is a mystery to William Betterridge's eldest daughter June. Pete does all the work he was employed for and he helps June and Margaret with their work as well. The interest Pete shows in June's son Gabriel is also a puzzlement to June. In June's experience men are not to be trusted. After all why would any man help with the dishes or clean harvested vegetables?

Pete is seeking to forget. He is trying to forget Rosalynn Richie, the daughter of his former employer, his first love. But the death of his friend and mentor drove Pete to seek a new life.

When Will is injured in a fall, Pete takes on more responsibilities of the ranch. Will wants Pete to marry June so that he can protect his daughters and the ranch. But Pete feels the decision should be up to June. When the men who embittered June return she decides that marriage to Pete is her only choice. But can either be truly happy with a marriage of convenience that is a marriage in name only?

Uneasy Fortunes was not what I was expecting when I started it, but I was not disappointed. What may seem like mere chance may be the path your life was meant to follow if only you follow your heart.
